| dog flu outbreak in Delaware Valley well I was back at the vet today this time with ChaCha. She has the same thing as Bentley, lethargic, vomiting and uncontrollable diarrhea with fever. The vet said he's seen so many dogs with this since Monday (including mine!) and had to admit 10 dogs to the hospital just yesterday. He said it is in South Jersey, Delaware and PA. While we were there several dogs came in with the same symptoms. My dogs boarded there last week so the vet thinks they got it from that but only one other dog that boarded has been sick so far. Please watch your dogs closely because they can become very sick quickly. Once again like with Bentley, I had the option to admit ChaCha, but I brought her home because I'm close enough if something should happen to get her back quickly and I believe they are more comfortable at home. |

| Oh, that's awful. You take your baby to the vet and it gets sick! Hope she's OK soon. Let us know how she's doing.

| Aw, that is horrible. I hope they feel better soon. I am worried because I am in the Delaware Valley as well. Are there any precautions I should take? Brooklyn has an appointment tomorrow morning to get his rabies shot. Should I cancel it? I'd rather be safe than sorry. Thanks!

Our Blessings R Many Donating Member | Prayers for Cha Cha and Bentley to get through this. We lost our Cassie last November due to this dog flu, it was the worst night of my life. This is so scarey, last November eleven people in our area lost their dogs to a virus the vet seemed to think it was dog flu. Three of the dogs were sent off for autopsy's and everything else was ruled out. They had two autopsy results from different places and both came back the same. Our Vet said it is air borne and very very easy for them to get it. Please keep us updated on how Cha Cha and Bentley are doing, sure hope they will get over this quickly. | let me clarify that it is not the "Canine Influenza" flu, This is a gastrointestinal flu that causes fever, vomiting and diarrhea. Both of my dogs were boarded at the vet last week for 8 days while we were away on vacation and my vet believes they were infected while they were there. In the last couple of days my vets office has been inundated with so many dogs having the same symptoms. This morning there were several dogs who were being treated for this flu and yesterday 10 dogs had to be admitted. I was told by the staff that the sick dogs were coming from Southeastern PA, Northern Delaware and South Jersey. So to answer your question about Brooklyn, don't cancel your appointment but ask your vet because maybe their office isn't seeing this illness. I live in Gloucester county, NJ and my vet is located in Boothwyn, PA. I think the big 5 day yorkie show is in Reading PA which is about 1 1/2 to 2 hours from here, so hopefully illness won't be a problem. |

| OK, thanks. That is horrible about your dogs caught it while staying at the vet. Assuming you are taking them for treatment at the same vet that they stayed at, is that vet paying for treatment? Just curious.

| Yes fortunately the vet is treating Bentley and Cha Cha at no cost to me. Romeo's mommy, I would call Posh Pets and talk to them about your concerns since they do have a doggy daycare. They may not have had any problems with this stomach flu. Bentley was groomed there the day before we left for vacation, 10 days before he got sick. Bentley and Cha Cha are doing better today. No more diarrhea or vomiting but they're still sluggish. I'm feeding them boiled chicken and rice and hopefully they'll be back to normal soon. They both lost too much weight. |
