let me clarify that it is not the "Canine Influenza" flu, This is a gastrointestinal flu that causes fever, vomiting and diarrhea. Both of my dogs were boarded at the vet last week for 8 days while we were away on vacation and my vet believes they were infected while they were there. In the last couple of days my vets office has been inundated with so many dogs having the same symptoms. This morning there were several dogs who were being treated for this flu and yesterday 10 dogs had to be admitted. I was told by the staff that the sick dogs were coming from Southeastern PA, Northern Delaware and South Jersey. So to answer your question about Brooklyn, don't cancel your appointment but ask your vet because maybe their office isn't seeing this illness. I live in Gloucester county, NJ and my vet is located in Boothwyn, PA.
I think the big 5 day yorkie show is in Reading PA which is about 1 1/2 to 2 hours from here, so hopefully illness won't be a problem. |
