| Some of these moms and dads work, so their babies are left alone, 8 to 9 hours. They get used to it. It's best not to leave them in a crate that long though. An ex pen would be a better choice. |

I Love My Lil' Punkin's Donating Member | Yorkies home alone I'd say leave them alone as little as possible! But then agian, sometimes I know it just can't be helped (when you go shopping, or have to go out of town, etc.). However, I don't work during the day and get to stay home with him all day long so I guess he and I are just plum spoiled

| In a perfect world we wouldn't have to work and could stay with our furbabies all day, but that's not the case (at least not for too many of us on here). Most puppies are fine alone for 8 or 9 hours - just make sure you give them lots of things to keep themselves busy (lots of chews, toys, etc). I agree with JeanieK in that a crate is not the best place for a puppy for extended periods (I think a general rule of thumb is an hour for the number of months old the puppy is - 2 mths old=2hrs in the crate, to a maximum of 4hrs). An expen is a great alternative.

| Tigger has free roam of the house eight hours a day. we never crated him. We would post baby gates at both ends of our kitchen and that would be where he would stay and then we slowly introduced him to roaming. Granted he got into a lot of stuff in the beginning and for awhile after but he's mellowed out with the snooping issue. But Hey for him it's eight, when he was younger it was sometimes even nine. Here's a pic of the damage mr tig has done and one of how innocent he looks. LOL 1-damage pic 2- my innocent angel(yeah right)

| Until she was 4 y.o. Mitzi was alone during the day. She did good with it. My husband drove home during lunch hour to spend some time with her and walk her. We can leave her alone for 4 to 6 hours without a problem. She just sleeps in her favorite closet. |

| I am at work all day, usually from 8 or 9am until around 6pm. I leave in the morning and put Diamond in the kitchen since it's hardwood floors and put up the baby gate. She usually just lays in her bed the whole time. Then, around 12 or 1pm, I have a great petsitter who comes and takes her outside and feeds her. After that, Diamond is alone from around 1 or 1:30pm to about 6pm. She is in her crate in the afternoon. She is pretty good. She rarely has accidents in the kitchen or in her crate. I hate to leave her but I would be poor if I wasn't working! Hopefully, someday when I am married and have kids...I can stay at home with the kids and Diamond

| Zoe is home alone 8-9 hours 2 days a week and then the rest of the week no more than 3 hours. He usually gets free roam of the house with no accidents but since he's recovering from LP surgery he only gets the second floor - no stairs. Lots of toys water. Because I feel guilty for leaving him, I always give him a baby carrot before I leave the house. I'm a dork.

Yorkie Lover Donating Member | Our girls are alone about 4-5 hours a day...I go to class in the mornings and my parents are at work all day, so they are by themselves. But they mostly just sleep the day away and once I/we get home, it is LOTS of playtime!! They seemed to have gotten used to us leaving in the morning, although they don't like it very much....

| I've left Sean alone as long as 7 hours though that is not the usual situation. He was fine. It all depends on the dog. I always remove his harness, shut doors leading to different rooms, and try to make sure nothing will be a problem for him. I leave only soft toys for him to snuggle with or play with. I think he probably spends most of the time napping on my chair since that's his favorite place. (We compete for the use of the chair!) When I get home he is so excited to see me. Takes a while to get his harness on since he keeps lying on his back for me to rub his chest/belly. So cute! |

| I also leave the radio on while we are out. Since it's the local station, there are people who are constantly speaking in addition to the music. |

| Dezi is home all day from 9 to 6 Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Now that she is potty train, she gets free roam of the house. On Tuesdays and Thursdays she goes to doggie day camp. I leave a busy ball with treats and flossies. |

| Remy is left alone for about 8-9 hours 4 days of the week with an hour between that when im able to go home on lunch and he does pefectly fine. he usually just naps most of the time. i agree that you should leave him with plenty of toys and water. i let Remy roam free around my room and he hasn't damaged a single thing. i think that helps them a lot when they're not locked up in a crate or carrier. i too leave on the radio when i'm away. i think it helps them not feel so alone. |
