Tigger has free roam of the house eight hours a day. we never crated him. We would post baby gates at both ends of our kitchen and that would be where he would stay and then we slowly introduced him to roaming. Granted he got into a lot of stuff in the beginning and for awhile after but he's mellowed out with the snooping issue. But Hey for him it's eight, when he was younger it was sometimes even nine.
