Update on Megan Hi! More news on our old lady having several babies!!! We went to see the breeder who we had Paddy from and she has given us all sorts of advice. She said Megan should never be wormed when she is pregnant and not until 2 weeks after she has the pups. She says Meg is too thin at the moment and I should concentrate on getting her to eat fatty foods like duck, fish, chicken, rice, pasta, scrambled eggs and weetbix! So we went shopping last night and got a huge duck (which my dads cooking for me right now) and everything else she said! We also got her some Butchers tinned puppy food, tripe with chicken, beef and rabbit. She loves the tinned food (she ate a whole tin last night) she has tried scrambled egg but only ate a little bit! Anyway,Paddy met his sister from the same litter as him and they loved each other! They were rolling round on the sofa playing reallywell together,if you remember Paddy had a spurt of not liking other dogs much and barking like mad all the time and chasing them, well Ive never seen him play like this before,it was too cute! Unfortunatly we found out that Paddys mum died 1 week after she had another litter, gastro (I know Im gonna spell this wrong!!!) entritis??? She was more than happy to help us out and sat down working dates out with us. We worked out that our babies are due between the 18th and 25th July. We go on holiday camping on the 11th July to 21st July Guess what, she offered to look after Megan whilst we are away, she uses the same Vets as us and if anything happens of goes wrong she wont hesitate to get her to the vets asap! She also said that I can ring her day or night and she will come straight over (she lives about 15 minutes away). She also told us that you cant feel babies kicking until 6 weeks,is that right? Sorry for going on so long! I just wanted to put as much in as I can so if theres anything that doesnt sound right you can tell me! Ive got her cage all set up in our bedroom with a comfy bed and Meg sleeps in there now,we dont shut the door, she just goes there! Oh,whats the largest litter you guys know about, apparantly Paddy was one of 7!

I hate to say this, but gastroenteritis can be caused by inappropriate food. I would get the advise of a Vet as to what foods might be better choices. I just don’t know about the Duck, sounds like trouble to me.

It was probably metritis (inflammation/infection of the uterus), probably caused by retaining of a placenta or fetus. Always continue to monitor the Mom's discharge, odor and temperature. 9 is the largest litter I have heard about. With Megan's age I would definitely have an x-ray done about Day 55 so you know how many to expect and will know if for some reason she stops contracting (uterine inertia) and she still has more babies to deliver. I usually don't have ultrasounds performed, but I would definitely consider it with her. How long has it been since she has been wormed? There are safe wormers to use while pregnant and dormant worms become activated during pregnancy. I always worm before breeding so I don't know what to recommend on this. It nice that you are going to have someone experienced help you out. Two heads and four hands are always helpful. I don't see anything wrong with duck (never have used it though). I feed a puppy formula dry, boiled egg, chicken, chicken livers (only once or twice a week), low fat cottage cheese, yogurt, and rice. She does need to put on weight, but too much weight can cause whelping complications so it should be good weight. As her belly grows, her stomach will not have as much room so she will need to be fed 4 small meals a day. I don't know about going on vacation. I guess it depends on Megan's personality. Mine would be very upset, if I wasn't there and I would be worried how they would react about going somewhere else for 10 days at such a critical time. Good luck and keep us updated.

Hi! Went on holiday n got back late last night. Megan still not had the pups but when I went to collect her today Sherrie (the lady who looked after her) showed me how she is a bit wet round her bits and sticking her tail out a lot. She is a bit bigger now but not huge, and we think it could be any day now. Ive left her with sherrie till tomorow as Im in court all day tomorow giving evidence for a friend and didnt want to leave Meg all day, when I left her she was lying down with Honey,(Paddys sister) and another yorkie Sherrie has called twinkle! Im still nervous about the pups coming but at least Ive got a friend who knows what she is doing! Oh by the wat,Paddy was swimming in enormous rock pools on the beach,it was so funny! Everyone was watching him and laughing,he loved it! Anyway,Im supposed to be unpacking, the hubbys a fireman and hes just gone out to a fire so I thought Id come and update you guys!!! Sssshhhhh!!!!! See you later!!
