I'm sure there are still puppy mills, but I do know there are good people that breed dogs and aren't doing it as there main source of income so they tend to treat the dogs better (don't breed them everytime they are in heat, etc). My sister knows someone who breeds Yorkies in Oklahoma, I think they only have a few of each sex of adult dogs, not sure though and they sell them locally (my sister bought one) but they also sell them to a broker for a guaranteed price and the puppies are shipped to California, not sure where they go from there. But, these puppies in Oklahoma aren't in a puppy mill.

Puppy Mill Bull #*$*! Excuse my language! Been there done that! There are such things as puppy mills! It's breeders who have dogs that don't take care of them and are out to make an easy buck!!! And I bet those dogs all had Parvo!!! Diarrhea and vomiting are the top signs of Parvo! I bet all those dogs in those cages are giving to one another! I have had my own experience with puppy mills! I paid $1085.00 for my Yorkie Kahlua and the day after I brought her home she started having vomiting with dirrhea! I took her to the vet and sure enough she had Parvo! She was in the hospital for 1 week and 2 days! The vet told me I was sold a sick dog cause Parvo has a 7 to 10 day gestational period and she was full of worms! The lady I bought her from din't give me the correct AKC papers and told me Kahlua had been wormed and was up tp date with her shots. But it sure is funny she couldn't find her shot records!!! My vet also told me that yes there is a chance she could get Parvo at this age (3mnths at the time, now 6mnths. ) cause they have not had enough shots. But he said thats only if she had been exposed to Parvo and was in dirty kennels! He also said if she would have been wormed she would have never had worms as bad as she did! But thank goodness she lived! She is my little miracle! And don't worry I'm taking caring of the puppymill that sold her to me! I reported her to the BBB, wrote a letter to the editor of our local newspaper about her and am suing her!!! She messed with the wrong person! My point is puppymills have to be stopped!!! Sorry I have so much to say about the subject but htese people really tick me off! Hope my advice helps you a little!!!!

the guy is in it for the money and he knows what he is doing. Get your friends to phone the shelter as well, they can't ignore a bunch of people raising heck over that pet store. Go to your local newspaper with the story. They love to get in on stuff like this place. The more publicity you can generate the better the chance of putting a stop to it.

Any news Amber? You're an absolute legend by the way for calling. Those poor little puppies . It's illegal here in the UK to sell most live animals (with the exception of fish) in pet stores and too right too. I know it's a more complicated situation in America because certain states like Missouri have a long tradition of puppy farming and as much as that's awful for us, it's still a livelihood for some I guess. In any event, I really wish they'd stop selling them like this. It just breaks my heart to think of them out there tonight in that heat and in those conditions

Our pet shops here do have some cages with dogs/cats for adoption but they are on consignment from our animal shelter. This has been going on for 3 years now, 2 yesra ago while I was looking to buy my first Chloe, I looked for a long time, I did look in pet stores in other neighborhoods because I did want a puppy. In the end I did not get her from a pet store but from a private breeder. I learned a lot duiring my long search for the perfect pupppy. A week after I brought Chloe home, the pet store in Ypsilanti,Michigan was pictured in the news, consditions that you described, he was fined & ordered to get vet help for all his animals BUT they never shut him down. I was stunned. They did do a follow up check a few weeks after. That also was in the paper, so another "Amber like person" must have reported him as well. Maybe if they were shut down, it would finally stop but they don't
