I've had thoughts about the day when I lose my baby boy Cookie . He's a young little guy still and he's very healthy now that he's been on his low protein diet. Well I had a nightmare a few days ago that I got home and found him dead on the kitchen floor. I woke up from the nightmare but could not fall asleep and cuddled him on my chest the whole night. I don't think I could bare to bury him in the back or have him cremated. I know it sounds weird but the thought of putting him in the ground or keeping his ashes is something I doubt I can do. So I looked up pet preservation and found a bunch of sites that beautifully preserve your pet.No you will never get wet kisses or feel their little breaths anymore. But you send them pictures and request a pose you would like, sleeping, sitting with eyes open (glass eyes that look real) I read one story of an elderly lady that lost her pet and she could not bare to bury him . Her daughter decided to send the dog in dry ice and Fed Ex him to the preservation company. It took about 60 days to complete the process. When she opened the box , she burst into tears because her beloved pet was posed in such a realistic position and the hair was brushed so delicately. She kept him in a private part of the house.I talked to my husband about this just to see what he thought and he's so attached to Cookie & Lola also that he said he would probably seriously consider that also. Would anyone here consider that? I have mixed feelings about it but I don't think that anyone that does this is crazy either. The cost for small dogs is around $400 Genie,Cookie & Lola

That is a really tough question. I guess it is something that you would have to plan ahead for, and I just don't want to think about life without my furkids

I think I agree with Villette on this one. I think I might find it a bit creepy, too. I had my little terrier love creamated this winter...I had her for 7 years and because of the 5 feet of snow on the ground as well as the frost...and also the fact that I didn't have the heart to bury her anyway, we did the cremation thing. I'm going to go around this summer to all of her favorite places and leave a little bit of her behind. I think she'd really love that. It cost me about $350.00 Cdn.

In my opinion, I couldn't do it. I think looking at my baby freeze dried would make me cry even more every day.

No, I could just not bear it. I have problems even looking at their pictures, just to sad! When they are gone they are in my heart and head, and that’s all I can bear! Though frankly sometimes that is just to hard.

I wouldn't do it. I think it would just spook me looking at him. I would want to remember him with fond memories not constantly remember that he is dead.

				   | I couldn't do it... wouldn't do it. Besides the fact that it's somewhat creepy (try explaining to company that THAT is your deceased pet) it's no longer your dog. Your beloved pet has gone on to a much better place at that point and all you are preserving is its body. You can preserve the memories with pictures and small mementos (like a lock of their hair) to keep them close to you - without spending $400. To each his own though...

I don't think I could do that. It would be too hard to see her everyday but not get the kisses or be able to play with her.
