| Questions about coughing? My little Summer has been coughing the past few days. It almost sounds like she has a fur ball in her mouth or something. I am not sure I was just wondering if anyone might know what it is or if it could be a fur ball and what can I do to help her. She is a tiny little thing and she has been very healthy so far she is 6 months so I hope it is nothing serious. Thanks to anyone who can help.

| I think sometimes yorkies just cough for no reason. I know that when I take mine out in the hot weather and then bring them back into the air conditioner, they may start to cough or have a little bit of a runny nose for a few days, but it always goes away. She may, indeed, have a hairball in her throat. She may have eaten something that scratched her tiny throat and that is why she is coughing. She could also be reverse sneezing. However, it may be as serious as the beginning of a collapsed trachea. Just keep an eye on her and unless she really starts having trouble breathing, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Maybe next time you take her to the vet, just mention it to him and get the vet to check her out while you're there. |

| Thanks that makes me feel better. We were at the vet Sat. to get her rabies shot and I didn't even think to ask bc the poor thing was soo scared I was thinking to much about comforting her. But we have been going outside a lot and its really hot here and then back inside to the a/c so Ill hope thats what it is .

| Yeah I use to use collars and then I have read on here about not using them so I bought two really cute ones from chattiesmom. They aren't on a leash very often though because we live out in the country and they usually won't go far. Well Summer won't Abigail will but she loves to just be outside and just lay in the grass and romp around lol.

| Here's some links that you can read that might help you determine what is causing the cough and whether a vet appointment needs to be made. http://www.glassyorkies.homestead.com/ Select hypoglycemia on the left and then collapsed trachea. This will discuss reverse sneezing vs. collapsed trachea. Also www.canismajor.com/dog/cough.html This is other conditions that may cause a cough. |
