| Bad behavior My yorkie is 8 mos and he still eats our underwear, tissue or whatever. I thought this was just a stage and he will grow out of it but he haven't (yet). Does it take time for him to stop this behavior or does anyone have any suggestions for how to stop it. I am tired of buying underwear for my kids. 2nd - He also barks at the two pitbulls a lot. Everytime the pits come upstairs to go out he barks like someone is breaking into the house. What kind of behavior is this? Please help!

| I have overcome this type of behavior with my yorkie, who is almost 2, but it's not easy. It takes constant watch. I still haven't fully fixed the barking-at-big-dogs problem, but I do know he KNOWS better, and I've found ways to curb the issue (like pick him up and face the other direction so he doesn't see the other dog, haha!) But he doesn't bark/yap every time he sees another dog...just sometimes. I wonder what goes thru their little heads, haha! Sully used to love ripping apart tissue and underwear. I've partly fixed this by trying to doggie-proof my house as best I can, but on occasion when I did used to find underwear or tissue shredded I'd bring him to it and show him and tell him bad dog. Then he'd get a small time out. When it occured more often, I would put him back into his kennel when he left the house so that he would "earn" his free time again. After a week of not having full reign in the house (not a week of being in the kennel, but a week or so of being in the kennel when we left the house instead of letting him run free). Anyway, after a while I'd give him a chance and he would do better. It's just a little at a time and also with that, a lot of praise and love for what he's doing right.

| I'm sorry to say I don't think the tissue/underwear problem ever really goes away. I have a 1.5 year old and she's the best, never chews up shoes, purses or anything that isn't hers EXCEPT my underwear and tissues. I have a ton of crochless undies that I had to throw out. She came into the living room wearing my thong on her head the other day, good thing it was just me and my boyfriend I just laugh about it now.lol

| The tissue and underwear thing never seems to stop. I've just learned not to leave them lay, and don't leave them alone with access to the hamper either because they will pull the undies out through the holes in the hamper. My daughter had a big dog and she caught her with one of her thongs, and before she could get it away from her the dog swallowed it. LOL |

| Never have had this problem, but dirty clothes go straight to the hamper here. My Malamute destroyed at least 8 pairs of shoes though. Yes, it took us that long to learn to put up our shoes (duh?). At first, it was a good excuse for one of us to buy a new pair of tennies, but then when she started on the brand new ones!! I do have one Yorkie that barks at my Malamute. I just said her name and calmly said no (almost in a whisper) and she now does it very briefly and quietly, if at all. |

| Seems like a common problem! My girl does it too! We just make sure that underwear goes straight in the laundry hamper or in the drawers if clean, and tissues in the bin! It will help your children clean up! lol!

| We don't have the underwear problem, but Penny likes to shred used tissues. She'll ignore clean ones; I even had a box of them sitting on the floor in the office for ages. She paid no attention. But if the bathroom trash is full of tissues, she'll pull out one and shred it. We show it to her and tell her no, but that's about all we can do besides making sure she can't get to them. It's really only an occasional occurrence. |

| QUOTE: My yorkie is 8 mos and he still eats our underwear, tissue or whatever. Most dogs will do the above two things all their lives. It is definitely not an "age-thing." All dogs seem to love chewing on tissue - toilet paper - and other types of paper as well. Some about this is just "so fun" for them. And - underwear - pick it up -- you can't leave it lying around where they can get it.....or you will be buying new underwear forever! Carol Jean |
