| Tethering? I have found a lot of information on tethering and I was wondering if anyone here did that when they first brought their puppies home... |

| Here's a link http://eastbayspca.org/petownership/tethering.cfm explains what tethering is and what it does... I've never heard of anyone on here using this method... Just make sure if you do tether that you attach it to a harness and don't put anything around their neck!

| The instructor of the obedience class I took Pixie to swore by tethering... She said it helped to strengthen the bond between you and your dog. I never felt the need to do it though. Pixie was already clingy and followed me from room to room anyway, I didn't have to tie her to me to keep an eye on her! I could see how it would help if you a had a pup that got into a lot of trouble or didn't listen very well, but that really isn't a problem in my house.... Yet. We'll see how the new pup turns out over the next couple weeks. |

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | tethering is ok if you use a really short tether in the house to keep the pup in one area. But you still need to be careful because the pup can wrap it around himself and choke or get their legs caught in it, or chew it. there are many things your small pup can figure out to do with the tether. Also, never use it to tie your pup up outside, even if you use the harness. They can wiggle their way out of the harness if they try hard enough, and if the tether is longer then 3 feet they can run after something and be flug on their backs when the tether jerks them back after reaching the end of the line. I was thinking about getting a tether that you screw into the ground for the backyard since mine isn't fenced in but I've determined that my p uppy can still get hurt with it even on a harness adn even with me outside with her.

| As far as I understand it, tethering is supposed to also help you instill that you are the leader and they are the follower. But seriously, when I am up and doing things around the house, the last thing I would want is to have to have this adorable little puppy attached to me. I'd rather put him in an expen so that I can get done as soon as possible and then play with him! |

| I have never seen a Yorkie that needed tethering to bond. They are velcro dogs from day one if bought from a responsible breeder who socializes them in their home before placing them. JMHO Crate training is my suggestion.. But, larger puppies like Goldens, Labs and the like do benefit from tethering in some cases---so my sons tell me. I haven't had a large dog except for adult rescues and they could drag me around with the tether... |

| Somehow I think this could mean I will be in big trouble having to keep up what you two start... I don't think that will be too hard! |
