Are you saying a silky's hair can't touch the ground or should not touch the ground?? A silky's hair should not touch the ground, but it does grow to the ground and needs to be trimmed. I have seen alot of silkies where the owners kept them in a full coat with their hair coming down to the ground just like a yorkie's. It just is not acceptable in the show ring just like the hair on the silky's face is kept shorter and they don't have any topknots in their hair. So judging a silky vs yorkie, hair length is not going to tell you anything with pets.

ummm from the books that I have read, it says specifically that a silky terrier's hair "will never reach the ground"..

I guess there are always some exceptions...

The fine, silky, shiny hair has no undercoat. It is very prone to tangles and mats unless frequently groomed. The coat should not reach the floor.

I have both a Yorkie and a Silky. They are both fabulous! It is harder to find Silkys. Ibet it is just a big Yorkie

So can anyone tell me anything about my Yorkie by looking at his pic's? Is he silky or cottony? Does he look like he is full Yorkie? These pic's were taken in the last 2 days and he is 7 months old. He weighs 10 or 11lbs and he has not had a haircut yet.
