difference between a yorkie and a silky? I am dog sitting a yorkie this weekend, but am kind of wondering if she is actually a silky. Is there any way easy way to tell the difference? For example, her toenails are clear instead of black. |
Hi there ! I don't know about the toenails but here is a site where you can compare a Silky vs Yorkie - Hope this helps ! http://www.hatchs.com/silkies&yorkies.htm |
Here are some traits to look for in a silky: long muzzle, flatter skull, smaller base of ears, muscular build, longer in body than in height. A yorkie's traits are: short muzzle, dome shaped skull, wide base of ears, is as long in body as high (like a box). The website the red98vett all show these points, so if you look for these traits in the dog you are sitting you can determine which traits she has and whether she is closer to a silky or closer to a yorkie. Although there are alof of yorkies that look and resemble a silky but they really are yorkies. |
silky vs yorkie thanks for the great insight guys, i've been wondering myself this same question. At pet smart the other day I passed a lady who had a 'stranger looking' yorkie as my little girls called him. I took a look several times, and I now now he was a Silky! |
A yorkie's toenails are ALWAYS black..so if it is another color then its not a yorkie.. or at least a pure yorkie |
Oh btw, and a Silky Terrier's hair will never touch the ground.. but the Yorkie's will.. |
well, i got another look at her right next to my yorkie and I think she is a yorkie. Her nails just looked clear because they are so long!:0 If you hired a petsitter to come to your house to take care of your dog, would you be offended if they trimmed the nails?:) Oh, and left a note about the bad things in Iams food and how she's overweight? I know, I sound terrible, but when you see a yorkie you just tend to want to care for them in the same way you would care for your own. They got her for free cuz he momma chewed her leg off:( She's so sweet though and gets along pretty well with only three legs. But, she is very chunky, you can't even feel any bones when you push down. Ok, I'll get off my soapbox now! |

I,personally, would welcome you to come to my home and clip Sissy's nails. She absolutely hates having them done and screams like she is being killed. I finally gave up and took her to the groomers to do it!! |
Wait...whats wrong with Iams?? I feed my Yorkie Iams.. :-( |

Well then they arent Yorkies |
I don\'t know if yorkies are suppose to have white or black nails, Lexie\'s are black but you can come over anytime and pet sit and cut her nails...:D |
Here is the AKC breed standard.. Legs and Feet Forelegs should be straight, elbows neither in nor out. Hind legs straight when viewed from behind, but stifles are moderately bent when viewed from the sides. Feet are round with black toenails. Dewclaws, if any, are generally removed from the hind legs. Dewclaws on the forelegs may be removed. |

Iams contains a lot of biproduct. Read this thread about grading your dogs food, other products contain actual meat. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...ght=grade+food |
