| ![]() On the color, if I am understanding it correctly, it is like a recessive that has carried through the generations seen or not depending on the combination of the parents since the founding dogs. Now the AKC (American Kennel Club, the premier dog registry) does not have the Gold or Blond as a showable color at this moment (standards are always changing), however in my limited search of pedigrees, I have come across a Champion Yorkshire Terrier registered with the AKC that is listed as GOLD as it's color, CH.Pretorius' Dandy Sensation. So, if you like a color and it is not a current acceptable color, I feel that life is too short to worry about it as it does not harm the dog so enjoy and if you wish to breed, bred for the betterment of the breed, include such things like temperaments and health as well as conformation as very important aspects. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

| ![]() I used to have a neighbor,( when I lived in Raleigh,NC) who had a father and son blond Yorkies. I asked her what kind of dogs they were and she told me they were American Terriers. Later she told me they were actually Yorkshire terriers but the breeder was trying to get them registered as American Terriers cause the Yorkshire Terrier club was not agreeable to the color. This was waaaaay back in the 70's when she told me this, I have no idea of where the breeder lived. I think she,(the orgional breeder) gave up as I have yet to see them as a separate breed, or acceptable show color. I have also seen many beautiful silver colored Yorkies but that is apparantly not an acceptable color in the ring either. I actually like those colors though! A Yorky is a beautiful, cute elegant dog, no matter what the colors! |

| ![]() Yes, Golds and Blonds are sooo pretty! My Daisy Mae is one I have her pictured on my web site Home Page I cannot seem to figure out how to get pictures on the threads! Golds are acceptable to be registered with the AKC on a case by case way, one must send in pictures to back up your claim. Sometimes they will call them other things like TAN instead of Gold. Partis are registered in the same manner. So each dog is judged by the AKC before they issue a registration paper. Now, I know from taking to older breeders and breeders that have talked to older breeders, most older time breeders did not go through the trouble of trying to register their 'other' color puppies. Some were killed, given away or registered under a 'traditional' color. If registered under a 'traditional' color, sometimes they included a descriptive word to show the actual color. Like adding 'Gold' in the name if the dog was a Gold. ![]() |

| ![]() I have goldens. It is becomming a very common color, the true blondes, on the other hand, are not so common. The blondes are not just lighter goldens, they are blondes, with no red in the coloring. More like a light tan than a gold. |

| ![]() I think my Addison is a blonde, her pictures can be seen in my albums under her name. Her breeder told me her coloring was called apricot. I just love her more than anything and I always have people stop me to comment on how beautiful she is. I could not agree with them more, but of course I'm partial ![]()

| ![]() OH WOW SHE IS BEAUTIFUL!!! She looks like a little angel! Maybe it's some sort of 'albino' pigment in her skin causing her hair to be that color. She really does look heavenly though! Bless her pretty little heart!

| ![]() I belive, from what I have read of genetics in color, that all of the blond/tan/gold, shaded colors in mammals are a dilution of the color red. Blues/grays are a dilution of black. Albino is actually a lack of pigment. |
