Also if the breeder knows the stores reputation and if its a very excellent reputation, why wouldn't the breeder sell his or her dogs to an excellent pet store where they know the dogs will be well taken care of.My relative is very good about who she sends dogs home with, she won't sell a puppy if she thinks that the puppy isn't going to get the right kind of training, treatment, and care that all puppies and full grown dogs need and deserve. I know its easy to say that all pet stores are bad, because there are allot of bad ones out there. But there are people out there who love animals so much that they dedicate there entire career to making sure that the puppies and dogs get the best homes possible. I truly respect her and give her allot of credit for how well those animals are taken care of.

| If you have ever seen a puppy mill you would understand why breeders and pet lovers will deter people from supporting just ONE store that may buy from puppymills..I have seen a puppymill in real life once and it was the WORST thing I have ever seen in my life. I still can't get that picture out of my mind. They got closed down and were punished..but thats just one..there are soo many more out there. The smell alone will burn your eyes for so bad..imagine how the poor animals feel dealing with that day in and day out..it's awful..

I am glad that the puppy mill near you was closed and that they were punished. That is a small victory in a huge war against injustice towards animals.

| Yet another reason why puppy stores are problematic is because they do not screen the buyers. They sell the puppy to whomever pays the money. Has any pet store ever turned down a customer? As a result, people who buy puppies on a whim end up turning those dogs into the animal shelter a year or two later, after which point the animal gets traumatized and possibly euthanized. I am not suggesting that everyone that buys from a pet store is an irresponsible pet owner, or that the breeders in contrast are good judges of character (I have seen very irresponsible breeders), but with a pet store it is solely and strictly business, and how can it be otherwise? It is a store. You pay the money, you get your commodity. They don't care if the purchaser kills the animal the second he walks out of that store. Hell, he would be coming back to pay them more money for another one.

| Update.. I just came from the store. The owner was there. You guys would have LOST IT!! I was really nice (bacuae I was pumping her for info!) I asked her about the 5 yr old Yorkie female first. I asked how she got an older dog, because most people with Yorkies keep them. She hesitated, then replied., well, I get a lot of older dogs- its not that uncommon. Then she told me this girl had never been bred (yeah- I bet!) She never did answer me. She said the dog had a AKA??? registration. I went over to the cage of this poor dog and right away. I asked the owner if I could hold her. She got her out for me and I swear, the poor baby probably shook for 10 min while I was holding her. I then held the baby. She has has the baby for about a month. The baby is only 12 wks old. He seemed ok. I then asked if she offered a health guarantee. Of course the answer was "only against congenital problems". I asked her if they were vet checked. Again the answer was a very almost mean NO! I asked her where she was moving to. She said she didn't know yet. I VOW to find out where she is moving- I WILL picket her and close her down!!

| I'm not saying that every single pet store out there buys from mills but I still don't agree with pet stores. As another one said..they don't care who buys or what they do with the animal.. As long as there are pet stores there will be puppy mills so in order to stop these mills we can't support pet stores any of them. It's worth it to close them down even if it saves just one animal.. To the original poster..god bless you for taking action..

as long as there are puppy mills there will be pet stores. Let me ask why everyone is after the pet store? Why not got after the supplier? If the law would take animal abuse more seriously these mills would be closed! Closing a pet store will not stop the trafficing of pets. Closing the suppliers will. The problem as I see it is making our law enforcement agencies see this problem as just that "a problem and abuse". Every animal comes in with an invoice and location of where it came from. If a pet store is reported for cruelty to animals and the law goes there they should ask for invoices showing where the animals came from and go after them! If dog fighting is against the law why are puppy mills allowed! It's abuse by humans as well and money making.

| Peeka Boo I See You! Donating Member | O this is so sad! I to have a baby down here in a pet store i've been keeping an eye on him they wanted 1500.00 for him but over the 3 months he's dropped down to 900.00 it breaks my heart to wonder how badly they are treated i don't support the puppy mills in anyway but it is so hard to watch these little ones suffer because we don't want to keep the money going to the mills! What do we do to stop this? do we let all these little ones die or live horrible lives because they came from a mill? it's such a hard decision to make!! I think if they are in dyer condition and you have the money and no one will help them i say buy them. What if she can't sell them and she throws them out on the street to fend for them selfs that is much worse then buying them. We are here to help these poor babies!!!!![/COLOR] |

| YT Addict | In our First Amendment it states that we as American citizens have the right to assemble! ( So long as it is Peaceful) If you want to picket here in America you have every right just like everybody else here in the USA has the right to protest against what ever they want. However that doesn't mean you may or may not come across other people who may or may not agree with you. I would support you if you picked her since you have every right and a good reason, however please be wary of objection. People who are being "singled out" have a habit of lashing out. It just proves their bias. Those are the people who are all for the freedoms of our first amendment, so long as you are on their side of things. The second you prove to be on the oppositions side they turn on the whole idea of first amendment rights. If you picket that woman and her pet store for cruelty to animals and or buying from puppymills I am sure you will find a wealth of support her at YT. You would definitely have my support!!!!!! |

allow you to have them vet checked to make sure they were healthy and guarantee to return your money if not? Good luck on whatever you deceide. Poor pups. I blame the local authorities because they close their eyes to this kind of cruelty. I feel, if pet stores knew they would be randomly checked out they would keep a better place. Why a person would go into the business and not give a hoot about an animal is beyond me.
