| Agility of a Yorkie - how high can they jump? I am about to pickup my very first Yorkie pup within the next 2 weeks. It's too young to come home with me at 8 weeks today according to the seller. I am planning on confining the puppy to the kitchen while I am away from home by using a 16" wide wooden board layed down sideways to block the kitchen entrance. My question is...can a Yorkie eventually jump or climb over this 16 inch wall? I want to avoid purchasing a safety gate style barrier. I only ask because my last puppy was a Pomeranian and she was able to scale this height successfully much to my amazement. Thanks in advance. Last edited by Karateman; 06-18-2006 at 06:58 PM. |

| Welcome to YT! I'm thinking a Yorkie could easily scale a 16'' wall, especially if they were determined enough

| At 10 weeks Ginger could climb out of a 20 " deep basket, and the homemade x-pen we made her out of boards didn't even hold her once! Now we have the 36 " tall x-pen.

| My little guy thinks that he is tiny and will not jump up or even off of furniture so jumping may not be an issue. |

| Welcome to YT. Can't wait to see pics of your new little pup. I guess I have being lucky that Gucci is not a climber. We use a baby gate and she has never tried to climb out. But as you can see some are acrobats, . |

| Otis is a jumper and a climber - BUT, he had a scare with the baby gate when I first got him so he doesn't even try to climb up it. I was setting up the baby gate and I dropped it on the tile floor. It didn't hit him, but the loud noise near him has spooked him for life ! Poor little guy.... |

| Agility Thanks for all your input! Sounds like my 16" board won't be high enough. I better invest into a higher gate. I've seen one at Walmart that has an adjustable width similiar to a child's saftey gate. |

I came home from work he was on the other side! He has springs on his feet I found out fast. I had to use 2 gates one on top of the other. He is now 2 1/2 and has the full run of the house but still jumps like a cat. | |

| Welcome to YT. Yorkies are known for their daring ways, but each one is different. I would think you'll need at least 24" and that may not be enough. Time will tell. Congrats on your new little baby. Can't wait to see pics.

| The height a Yorkie can jump is based on a direct correlation to the amount of determination they have!!!
