| Help! Urinating Diva Lately Ginger has been very vocal. She will bark at anyone she sees outside and when she’s not getting what she wants. I’ve been giving her a little bit more freedom, now that she’s older and letting her stay in my office with me, instead of her gated area in the back. I’m wondering if maybe this has to do with her sudden behavioral change. Maybe now she thinks she’s the boss…or we’re equals? Another thing is every time she meets someone I can count on her peeing from excitement. I thought she would grow out of it but she’s turning a year this month and it’s worse than ever. I don’t want to get upset at her for something she can’t control but I wish it would stop. Can she control it? I like having her with me all day but I can’t have her peeing on my customers and demanding that they play with her, lol. Any suggestions or similar cases?

| On the vocal part...Cooper is very vocal too. When he wants something, like up on the bed or attention, he will give us this little growl. Unfortunately, my husband and I think this is hysterical and laugh and give him what he wants every time. I think the best thing would be to ignore this behavior and not reward it...but of course I'm not following that advice myself As for the peeing of excitement...when we will come home after being out for awhile...we walk directly outside and take him out because he has peed from excitement in the past. However, he doesn't do it when someone comes over and such...just if he has been home by himself and is needing to go. I did however, have a female dog years ago who did the peeing from excitement and such and she never outgrew it and did it all the time. We were never able to correct it, and of course did not punish her for it...I just don't think she could help it.

| My cocker would pee when she was excited and people came over. So we took her out right before she saw people and got excited and if someone comes over, we would take her out immediately before the person even got near her. This really helped and she stopped peeing everytime because she had a empty bladder. They can't help it, just try to take her out beforehand if you can or as soon as someone comes over. They may or may not grow out of it. It took several years for my cocker to grow out of it.
