| Getting Spayed on Friday Emmy is almost 7 months old and is going to be spayed on Friday. Is there anything I should look for when she comes home to me that afternoon to make sure she's ok and in the least pain as possible. I'm new to all this, so anything to look out for would be great!! -Ashley & Emmy |

| I'm sure it will all go smoothly. A few tips: get the pre-op blood tests done to rule out any problems prior to the op; get the vet to give a post op pain injection-they don't all do this unless you ask,but can assume the pain meds in the anesthetic is enough; buy one of those strange collars like a plastic bucket in case she bites at her stitches--my wee girl did and I had to make a quick trip back. No food from 7pm the night before. You won't be able to bath her until the stitches are out,so give her a bath the day before. My Holly was very sleepy for a couple of days. Give the vet some of her usual kibble-mine wanted to see her eating before she left her. You might want to give the vet her usual blanket--just washed of course. Also make sure her flea treatment is up to date ,in case she picks anything up at the vets,as you won't be able to treat afterwards until the stitches are out. I found the anticipation much worse than the event, which went beautifully. Now no worries about heat etc. Good luck with it all and keep us posted.

| Ok, thanks! I will be dropping her off Friday morning at 7:30 and they said she should be good to go home by 4. I just took her to the groomers yesterday so she was all clean and did her flea stuff and heartworm pill last night. Now since the stitches are on her belly, I know when I take her outside to go to the bathroom, she normally gets all wet in the morning from the grass. Is that going to be a problem I wonder? And I hope she doesn't try and get at the stitches because she gets very uncomfortable with new things. I'm hoping everything goes ok, but it still makes me nervous. She's my little baby! lol -Ashley & Emmy |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I put a preemie onsie on Cali to stop her from licking the incision and keep it clean. Just remember to gently brush her hiar once a day or she will get matted from the onsies. She will do great and you will be so relieved to get it over with !

| When Rosi was spayed i told Vet i want the best pain med available as i lived 30 miles away at that time. He said that a painpatch was the best,it was taped to her leg for 4 days.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I used the onesis on Cali as she was licking her stitches and it protected her large incision. I did not wan't to use the cone on her. I have a real tiny one brand new that I didn't use. I will send it out today!

| It Went Great! Just an update, Emmy is home now after getting fixed. She was also microchipped and had two teeth pulled! She seems to be doing fine, this morning trying to be her old self! I took the advice and got her a onsie after I got home because I noticed she wanted to keep licking her stitches! The vet told me that it was the samllest uterus that she had ever operated on too! Thanks for your advice, and I'm so glad that it's done and over with now! -Ashley & Emmy P.S.- All the attention Emmy is getting, I think she's going to milk it for a while! ;-) haha |
