| ![]() Thank you for the clarification. My Jack is a 10lb Yorkie coming from Registered parents. I have been consistantly asked if he is a silky due to his size. I have been told also that Yorkies do not weigh more than 7lbs so therefore he must be a silky. I'm glad to here of other "large" Yorkies and really don't care either way. I love his size, he is not fragile and my husband can rough house with him without worrying about breaking something. |

I bought my pup at a pet store. This paticular pet stote only buys from local breeders. I bought him under the impression he was a yorkie, his papers stated he was a yorkie and my vet listed him just as that. Then he started getting big. He was 8.5 pounds at 5 months old. I brought it up to my vet and he said it happens that before they were breed to be small they were 25 lb dogs. So i dropped it. He is now 7 months and weighs 11 lbs and is perfectly healthy. Three weeks ago i noticed he didnt have the big round eyes most of his yorkie friends have. And that his back is longer then theres. Soo we went into the vet and did a blood test. Turns out he is a pure breed silky terrier. So the papers were wrong and my vet. I say if you really wanna know get blood work done. Thata the only sure way to tell. | |

| ![]() I have both and they look very different. My Silky is much taller and longer than my Yorkie. Silky weighs 14 lbs. My Yorkie weighs 6. Easy to tell the difference now that I have both.

Welcome to YT, I would love to see some pics of your pup. I am sure you love your little guy as you should, but I am curious how you feel about the pet store. Have you been back to tell them of their mistake. Pet stores normally charge an arm and a leg for dogs so I would hope they were made aware of this. I have a yorkie mix and I paid accordingly for her, but it does really upset me when someone sells a dog at a yorkie price that is later found out not to be a yorkie.

Very Pretty Girl! My silky was an owner surrender. His papers (ACA) and all of his vet records say he is Yorkie. When I first saw him I knew he was very large and different than all Yorkies I've seen then I was informed that no he wasn't a Yorkie but a Silky. The previous owners purchased him from a bad breeder that sells or sold their pups in mall parking lot. I did a little research online and sure enough he's Silky. I really didn't know the difference before. Love him to pieces! He's a bundle of energy and very loving. His name is Rocket because he's faster than a rabbit!
