| adopted yorkie housebreaking help I recently took in a 2 year old male yorkie 5 pounds who's owner gave him up for adoption at our vet hospital. I was told he was very shy which he is a little shy but seemed to warm up to us as well as the rest of our K-9s. He didn't have a back yard at his old house and does at our house plus a doggie door outside which he has yet learned to use. His other issue was house breaking which he is not much at all. I wasn't informed however that he hiked his leg on furniture which is annoying. So far we have managed to catch him at it and put him outside but any clue on how long this takes or is this an ingrained habit at 2?? I have doxies and though they took a lot of time to housebreak were trained by 6 months. The gal who had him said that they had tried everything from crate training the treat routine and reprimanding. So just looking for other directions or input on others outcomes on this sort of thing thanks. Melissa |

| I would try crate training again. Make sure that the crate is only large enough for him to stand up, turn around, and lay down. If the smallest crate you can find is still too large, then put a box in the back of the crate to make it half the size. Then take your doggie out every 3-4 hours to potty, then back in the crate. I have found that crate training is the best thing when potty training doggies Hope this helps!!! If you need more tips on crate training, please PM me. |
