First time on a LOOOOONG trip SO - in a month I am taking Otis on his first long road trip. We are driving from Utah to Houston. I was wondering if ya'll had some good advice for such a long trip. He had a car seat ( Outward Hound) - though I am wondering if I should get a more comfortable seat. One of my friends suggested that I ask my vet about medication in case he freaks out about being in the car for so long. The longest he has been in a car is 1 hour. Thoughts ?? Suggestions ??

Well- I have flown with my girl from Houston to South Korea and she did great. The longest part of the trip was 13 hours but in total the trip was 22 from door to door. Is he use to a travel crate? I bet he will do great- he can look out the window and you can stop. There is something called Rescue Remedy- a natural product from a Health Food Store and Benedryal(sp) or maybe the Vet can give you something. I would test it out before your trip. Good luck and safe trip.

thanks ! Thanks ! I will check that out... I just didn't want to be "on the road" and regreting that I didn't bring something for Otis in case he became anxious. My sister moved from Austin,Tx to Minnestoa with her cat and it turned into a nightmare. Her cat, Esme, was SO freaked out after a few hours that she never was the same again. She became petrified of the car and car noises... and eventually became so skittish that she his all the time. That was nine years ago. As a result - I have never taken Otis with me on a long car trip ...BUT - I want to get over that AND be prepared for anything !

Buttercup has been taking long trips with my family ever since we got him. THe furthest we ever went was from Houston to Destin, FLorida, which was about 8.5 hours. He did pretty good, only he had to be let out ever 2.5 hours or else he wouldn't be so happy

I drove from California to Utah (about 12 hours) with Bridget. She has an Outward Hound car seat and did pretty good. I put a nice soft blanket in there and a few toys. Make sure you take frequent potty breaks to stretch your both your legs and have plenty of water for him. Also pack paper towels and some cleaning stuff in case of any accidents. I’m sure you’ve thought of all this fun stuff already. Have a great trip! We should get our kids together for a play date when you get back to Utah!
