| Sorry this is really gross!! I hate to bring this up and if you are eating while you read this you might want to skip this thread all together. The other day Reese pooped in a room that I was not in. As I walked in the room I noticed she was sniffing the carpet and there was a small piece if poop, but nothing else. So I picked her up so see what she had in her mouth and all I could smell was poop. I thought I was going to puke! She totally ate it!!!! AHHHHH A friend of mine told me her mother in-law's dog ate her poop and I thought Reese would NEVER do that. Well, I was totally wrong. I just caught her again tonight about to eat it. I bought a product called "Deter" which is supposed to eliminate the poop eating. Does anyone have any insight about this product? I called the vet to make sure it was safe and they said yes, just give her 1/4 of the tablet. Again I apologize for asking about this but some help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Chiara

| Don't worry... You are not alone. We just had the same discussion. My Caesar came home doing this and yes you don't want puppy kisses after this. But I did research on the net. and I bought these pills called Deter. One pill for each 10 lbs. so you chop them up and give it to them once a day for 2 weeks if they still keep it up you increase. My Caesar weighed a little less than 5 bls so I gave him half. ( they are natural so you won't od them) He stopped, not next day (because that poop was from the day before) but the next day he sniffed and walked away. I wouldn't tell you this if it didn't work for me. I bought them at my local pet store (petsmart) they were cheaper online but after shipping it was more expensive than just getting the locally. Hope this helps........ |

| Thank you! That is the same product that I purchsed. Reese is only 3.3 pounds so I think I will give her 1/4. I hope this works. It really is pretty gross. I am glad that what I bought is safe too. That was honestly my biggest concern.

| If that product doesn't work Solid Gold sells some that is called S.E.P (Stop Eating Poop) or you can try sprinkling accent (MSG) on their food. |

| I would also suggest that you pick the poop up right away, so that there is no temptation. If she is young then she will probably outgrow it, a lot of puppies do this. |

| Oh I pick it up as soon as I see her go. My major concern is when I am at work and she is in her pen, she usually poops on the pad inside the pen. Today there was none in her pen at all which makes me believe that she ate it.

| hopefully that product will work for you then. I didnt mean to sound like I was implying...that you dont pick up the poop. Sorry if it sounded that way. |

| Hi Reese, don't worry, many puppies do this, as gross as it seems. Mason did this for a while when he was younger (3-4 months)....when I come home from work, I'd find smear of poop on the floor but no poop!! Like you said, I'd smell poop in Mason's breath so I knew that he was eating it!! It was totally gross. I used deter for a couple of weeks and I started finding poop when I got home (whew.). Now, Mason still eats his poop every once in a while, but not the whole thing. He would take a bite and leaves the rest.....I'm hoping that he will eventually grow out of this nasty habit! |

| i had two pitbulls that used to eat out of my cats litterbox when they were puppies, they eventually grew out of it. Luckily so far Lefty's been scared of poop. after he poops he stares at it, then sniffs it and looks at me like "wow, did that just come out of ME?!? EWWW THAT STINKS, PICK IT UP ALREADY GIRLY" then he runs away from it. he hasn't raided the kitty litter for my cats poop yet *thank god*. they have a name for poop-eating, it's called . . . Coprophagia here's a link about it . . . http://www.vetinfo.com/dencyclopedia/decoprophagia.html

| I got mine at PetCo. It was like $10. But if she stops eating her poop, I don't care what the cost is, lol.
