How Did You Introduce New Puppy to...
I should have asked this question before I brought our new 12 week puppy Jill in our home where we have already have a 1 1/2 year old 4 lb. Jack. Silly me thought Jack would embrace this sweet little 1 lb 12oz. Jill.
Jack is not happy we brought Jill into our family. Any help from this experienced community would be most appreciated. Jill's family was her mom, dad, brother and another adult yorkie. So she was well socialized with other yorkies. Jack is an only child. He growls at her and won't let her get close to him. So we have separated them and will introduce them gradually for now.
Thank you for any suggestions.
P.S. I know you all like pictures so I posted a few!

Awww Jill is beautiful!!!! just do what your doing, introduce them slowly bit by bit! maybe find an activity to get them both involved! like feeding them treats together and playing.Give Jack lots of praise if he lets jill get close. He has had his nose pushed out of place and is jealous! just carry on as normal and get him involved with everything! they will be the best of pals in a few weeks im sure! Good Luck and keep us posted! congratulaions on such a beautiful little girl!

I also have one yorkie only, so Im not help. But I wanted to say that Jill is a cutie. She is a doll. Give them time and introduce them slowly. Good luck.

i actually bought a puppy for my little boy (14 mos.). every step i took, he took, so i thought he would be really happy with a friend. he always enjoys when my mom comes to visit and brings her two. he even sleeps in bed with them and totally ignores me. at first, things were a little stressed, but now after a month, all is going well and mine play nicely together. they do play a little rough at times, but the baby can hold her own. i usually have to rescue him because she has a fascination with his pony tail and will grab it and not let go. she's 2 1/2 pounds at 3 mos. and he's just under 4 pounds full grown.

I have heard that it may help if you keep everything as is, as Jack thinks he's the alpha-male in the house now, so let him continue to be. If Jill sees that Jack is the "top dog", she may become used to it and accept that. One Jack knows that Jill accepts his role, then it may be easier for them to bond together. And treat Jack the same as before Jill came into the home. That's one method I've heard.

I know you've posted before.... I think. But remember... Jill will adjust... what you what is Jack to feel secure so, whenever I bring a new baby into this house..... I always go down the pecking order..... that means I greet them , treat treat them, pet them all according to the order. All my doggies get along very well and I just got in a new baby girl this week....2 days to be exact and she is doing well. I make the older dogs feel like having a new baby makes their life better.... like they get extra treats and toys. I'm not saying you should ignore Jill but def play with Jack more...... this is OMO.

We just got Rexy a month ago (he's 13 weeks) and Rowdy is 14 months old. We do have a senior schnauzer who was here when Rowdy arrived.
We took Rowdy with us to pick up Rexy so they met on neutral territory. We did exactly as someone else mentioned, greet Rowdy first, give him the attention he was used to having, and definitely made sure he felt like number 1! Little Rex didn't seem to mind at all - he was kinda oblivious for the first week or so. It was hard, but we didn't pick up Rexy everytime we saw him - although I WANTED to. I just made sure that Rowdy felt secure.
Rowdy was never mean to Rex, he didn't growl at him or anything and they were playing in a couple of days - but in general, Rwody loves EVERYONE and EVERYTHING.
Also, when Rex would be in my lap, Rowdy would come and get between Rexy and my face (yes - he would sit on my boobs!) I just let him and I didn't make him get down. Rowdy still does that sometimes, but not everytime I hold Rexy.
Everything has worked out well. They play - but do get a bit rough at times. Like another poster said, I sometimes have to rescue Rowdy because I dont' think Rexy realizes how rough he can be. We still have an occasional squabble over a toy, but basically they are best of buds!
