I think you´re suppsed to messure from shoulder to tail.Lady is my oldest yorkie (17 months) and she is almost 9 inches from shoulder to tail, and Jess is my youngest yorkie (1 year) and she is 14 inches from shoulder to tail. They are both long bodied, although Lady has very long legs whilst Jessies legs are very short.

Measurements My male Artie is 12 inches from the base of his neck/shoulders and he is 9 inches tall, weighs 7 pounds and is 1 year + 3 months old. So I beleive he is done growing? He barely eats now a days.

Bailey's the 'stocky' type of yorkie. Very short legged (which was a must for me) and very short bodied. Just small all around. He is 14 weeks old and is 6 1/2 inches long

My understanding is that many smaller breed type females tend to be a "bit" longer to accomodate the uterus and puppies..... This is a normal finding in chihuahua's...my female looks like a weiner dog compared to my friends male......my female is not as short and stocky.

Maddie is about 10 1/2 inches from collar to tail and weighs 5 1/2 pounds. I think females have a thinner appearance, thus they look longer. From the little males I've known, they are a little rounder in the belly area.
