Thanks once again for the encouraging words... Latest update - Thursday Evening: I have been corresponding with the Director of Animal Control who knows my name and knows I want to adopt this Yorkie (the latest contact was this afternoon). I have sent the name and phone number of my vet to Animal Control who will confirm my past track positive record with my Maltese (after I contacted my vet first to let them know what was happening). There are procedures Animal Control goes through in the process and things look favorable at this moment. I will follow up again tomorrow...

| It sounds to me that they want you to have the dog but you are right - they do have to follow procedures. Unless this little one is to ill I think you will be allowed to adopt him...

I understand why your afraid the pup will be euthanized, but typically unless she shows signs of violence which would become a social problem for people and other animals the dog will not be. In shelters (or at least the ones here) rarly euthenize dogs unless they are unadoptable... which has been your concern with her health, but she dosn't sound like a violent pup so you should be good. When thinking about the staggering numbers of animals euthanized in shelters you should keep in mind what kind of animals there are... not just dogs. Dogs are easy to find new homes for (especially small ones) it's cats and bunnies who are most commonly euthanized and make up a HUGE percentage of those euthanized. Last year our local shelter euthanized several thousand animals and only SIX dogs, all because they were considered a violent threat to society. As for animals "aciddently" slipping through cracks and being euthanized the shelters system is very efficient and wouln't let that happen. I garuntee they keep close track of interest in the animals and wouldn't simply "forget" that one was still adoptable... maybe it's happened but it seems more like one of those old wifes tales used to scare people into action. A vet would also do all the euthanizing, not a volunteer, and since you've already had contact with the head of your shelter i'm sure your very safe. Good luck with your new bundle of joy and be patient with the little girl... let us know what you name her for sure!!! Oh and the reason i know all this is i've recently done a persuasive speech on adpting animals from shelters and did extensive research and interviews with my local SPCA to get all the facts straight.

Friday Update: I went by Animal Control again today (Friday) and talked to another representative who made another note in this Yorkie's file that I had come by inquiring about her. No new news to report ... things are still on track with the required 7 day hold time ending on Tuesday. Thanks once again for the additional kind words.

Sunday Update - The shelter is closed today and tomorrow I will check again to find out any news and exactly what time the Yorkie will be up for adoption. I am applying the attitude of "knowing the outcome in advance" in adopting this Yorkie, which means I am assuming a positive outcome. I have bought her a cool little doggie bed and I decided to try and find another one of what I call "the best $10 I ever spent" on something for my Maltese, which was a children's "Mini Mushroom Chair" I saw last yeat at Walmart. He loves this chair and it also folds flat when needed. I went to several Walmarts and could not find them. Evidently they were closed out and I did see a few of the large adult sized ones but they are too big. My Maltese (his name is Bo') has a blue chair (picture of him in it is below), and I really wanted to find a pink one for the Yorkie (since it is a girl). The mini mushroom chairs were not at Walmart online either. Well, this afternoon, I stopped by another Walmart away from where I live and I decided to check in the chair/furniture section and guess what...they had ONE Mini Mushroom Chair left - and it was PINK! Tell me that is not a sign. And to top that, the price was not on it and I was prepared to pay whatever it costs...at the register it showed $6.00! A great deal at $10, unbelievable at $6. They are about 19" in diameter, sturdy, and collapsable. So, some Walmarts across the country may have some left if anyone was looking into getting one for their Yorkie...my Maltese loves his. A picture with Bo' in his blue Mini Mushroom Chair is attached
