| Parker keeps peeing everywhere Ok guys, I need your help. Parker keeps peeing everywhere 15weeks (male). I posted something a while back and I got him an xpen. He started using the pee pads for the first time. I take him outside and put a few pee pads downs for just incase. I really thought that he was doing really good. But last night I noticed at lease 10 little spots around the house and he peed on my daughters new hello kitty body pillow $40.00. We can take him outside, he does his business, then sometimes comes right back in and pees on the carpet, sometimes the pee pad. Is this just him marking and will he stop. We have confined him to a smaller area. I really need your help my hubby is going CRAZY!!! Dont get me wrong, I am to, but I have a little more patients. I even give him a cherrio when he potties in the right place and praise him like crazy. He likes the praise because he goes around in circles. He is a sweetheart, but my hubby is losing his patients fast. How do you guys do it? I also noticed people saying there yorkie is over a year and still not potty trained. I know if this is the case my husband will not allow it and he will make me sale him. Is this just a male thing. Are female yorkies better at potty training. Please, Please, Help! What am I doing wrong????????? |

| Denise, I'm by far NOT an expert! I have a yorkie boy, too, (my first!) and he's now 6 months old and just now seems to 'get it'. Believe me...this ISN'T an exact science so don't beat yourself up over this!! Topher did pretty good from the get go on the pee pads, but it didn't seem to 'sink in' until the last month or so. I am a HUGE believer on the treats and praise, too, and Topher loves getting both when he does the right thing. He still made mistakes and peed elsewhere from time to time, but we kept him VERY restricted as to where he could go in the rest of the house. (we kept the kitchen blocked off...we have vinyl flooring in there and it's easy to clean!) I think that's key to save yourself from going crazy and having him pee where he isn't supposed to. Parker is still only a little guy and the praise and positive reinforcement WILL work eventually if you're consistent. Also, I've found that Topher did/does better if I have two or three pee pads out and I always leave them in the same areas in the kitchen. The most IMPORTANT thing I think I've learned, though, is that you have to keep your eye on them AT ALL TIMES...it's difficult, but it saves finding those pee spots later on. If you know where he is and what he's doing, you won't find surprises later and get wet feet!! I don't know alot about 'marking' 'cause I haven't experienced that with Topher (yet). I'm sure there's more seasoned yorkie owners on here who could help you with that. I just wanted to tell you not to stress too much, hon. Just keep him confined to an area where it's easy to clean up piddles; take him outside after naps and eating; keep up with the praise and treats and don't take your eyes off him for a second! Don't beat yourself up! The 'lightbulb' will go on over Parker's head soon. I truly believe that pups are like children...they each learn at their own pace, some sooner than others, but eventually, if we're consistent and watchful, they'll learn what we're trying to teach. Take care and don't stress too much! |

| I probably shouldn't even post because it will depress you, but Tucker is a year old and he still pees all over the house. He will go outside every time we take him out, and then go in the house 5 minutes later. Belly bands are the only solution and I highly recommend them. Some people say that they won't pee in the belly band, Tucker does, but then I just change it. He was fixed at 6 months old but it has made no difference in his peeing and marking. My husband is at the end of his rope also. Try the belly bands and hopefully your little guy will out grow it.

| Hi Denise...Parker is still pretty young and please don't be discouraged. It can take a while before these stubborn little one's finally "get it," but they normally eventually do. Are you going to have Parker neutered? If so, do it by six months or so before he starts lifting his leg and marking. Also, as Teri suggested...belly bands are a great help and so good for your carpets and floors! Good luck!

| My pup is 8-9 months old now --- and really "holds it" a lot longer - for hours. When they get older and can go longer without having to pee - this really does help with training. Also - if I'm good and take my dog out ever couple hours, he almost never pees in the house. (I think of this as my being trained - not his being trained - because if I didn't take him out, he'd gladly pee anywhere in the house.) And - even though he is still good - I often put a belly band on him when he's runing around the house - just in case (and at night - though he almost never pees during the night). Good luck - at best, it's not easy!!!! But my routine certainly keeps the "pee damage down to almost "nothing." And - I'm so glad summer is almost here. This will certainly help me be more willing to go outside a lot more. And my pup is already definitely spending more time outside.....this is good! Carol Jean |

| thank for the info. I forgot to tell you that during the night he goes crazy at 2:30 and I let him out, then he goes back in bed with us until 6:30 or later on weekends, and wont pee a drop. I must say he is spoiled. And need I say althought he is such a momma's boy, he snuggles with my hubby at night. I think he knows he's made him mad during the day and is trying to make up. hahaha. |
