Laila is still quite young, but I had originally planned on growing her hair out. However, once I realized how difficult her hair was to manage (she has a cottony not silky coat so she matts easier) I decided to try the puppy cut. I chopped it all off and she was super cute. When her hair begin to grow though I realized how much I loved the long hair. I went to petco and figured out all these ways to help keep her mat free and made sure to not let her sleep in clothes, used a thick conditioner, big bottle of detangler). It has now been about 5 months since her short puppy cut and we are still happy and doing well managing the long hair. Good luck w/ your pooch, I love both hair cuts, but the long is so classic beauty. Best of luck to you!

Both my boys have silky, shiny coats and I'm tempted to grow them out. But when I see how they rough-house like two maniacs inside and out, I can see myself spending an hour every night combing through the dirt and tangles! I think the long coats might be better suited to the dainty girls.

I have never cut Wosie's hair, however, when she broke her leg, both her right legs were shaved for surgery so she has uneven growth there. I always kept my other two yorkies in shorter cuts for summer, longer for winter, and they never had full coats. I have decided that I will grow Wosie's hair out and keep her mat free as much as possible. She doesn't mind being groomed by me, and so far her coat has been pretty easy to manage. Wosie is now turning color, surprisingly, at 10 months. I am looking forward to seeing what her coat looks like at 18 months. She is like a butterfly, going through all her changes!

I want to see pictures of your pup you refer to in your post, Carol Jean!

Well, y'all convinced me to let my Havanese grow out. The 2 Biewers are staying long but it has been a long time since I had Bailey in anything but a puppy cut. I'll post a picture later.
