First look at the outside world! I have a big garden and would love to spend the summer making the most of it with Daisy. She has been with us just over a week and is 8 weeks old , how much longer shall i wait before taking her outside? I went into the garden yesterday to feed my rabbit and took daisy with me but she just stood there and shaked. I felt so sorry for her that i rushed back in and made my partner do the rabbit. What where your pups like when you first took them outside? Any advice? Big kisses from Daisy x

Tyson-went out & shook & his tail was low & he was crouching to the ground. It took a few minutes & he warmed up to the yard. I took him ast the yard for a walk & he was crouching again. It took a few minutes he warmed up to the walking outside. It has been 6 days since he was introduced outside & he LOVES it. He would bite his harnness-now he puts his head through & loves it!

Don't coddle her! I would take her back outside again at your first chance. The last thing you want her to realise is that everytime she's unsure or nervous mom is gonna come to the rescue. If so, her confidence won't be very high and she'll depend on you too much. I would take her out again and this time if she gets anxious or nervous, give her a second to think about the new environment and if she's still nervous, try to invite her to follow you for a few steps. You can shuffle your feet next to her in the direction you want to walk...clap your hands softly...just be encouraging and "force" her (for lack of a better word) to walk around a bit. Even if just for a minute or two. The point then will be that when she gets nervous or anxious she's gotta do something about it and be an independant thinker and "choose" to investigate. If she runs up to you praise her highly, just don't be quick to pick her up! Something else is, due to her age and the trauma of simply being away from her "family", take her outside and YOU lay down in the grass. Put her in the grass next to you as you lay there and she will naturally on her own begin to walk around and maybe climb all over you. ENJOY! You'll see her personality come out in NO TIME outside. She'll be fine. Just remember not to rush to pick her up each time she's anxious, or it'll only get worse as she matures I guarantee it.

Donating YT 10K Club Member | I think playing in your garden or back yard is fine at 8 weeks. It's public areas where you don't "know" what other dogs have been around that are problem....doggie parks, or doggie areas at rest stops, pet stores. I'd avoid those areas. I took Ramsey outside the day after we got her at 9 weeks. She loves outside....so many sticks, leaves, and bugs to pounce and chase. She'd stay out there for hours if I let her. Have fun with your baby. Mine is my gardening companion....even if that means she's biting OFF the flower blooms or digging a nice hole

If she has had her first set of shots and been wormed then I would think it would be safe to take her out. Mollie had her babies July of last year. I didn't even think about letting them go out for the first time until I took them to the vet for their first shots and worming.

My Georgia (tiny shih tzu) is 11 weeks with her 1st set of shots and has been de-wormed. My vet said it was fine to take her out in the yard so we ventured out for the first time yesterday and she was hysterical..attacking the grass and trying to pull it out...then trying to munch on the bark mulch. Needless to say we didn't last long outside but will try again this weekend!!

Dezi, was the same way. She was very nervous and did not want to walk and was shaking. I took her out everyday for a couple of minutes. Now if you grab your keys or stand by the door she is right in front of you. She loves to go out. She growls when I take her harness off.

Here is Chance out in the yard with the tulips. I would think that it would be okay to take your pup outside. Maybe take a toy or if your pup likes to play ball. Show them that the yard is fun time.
