I think playing in your garden or back yard is fine at 8 weeks. It's public areas where you don't "know" what other dogs have been around that are problem....doggie parks, or doggie areas at rest stops, pet stores. I'd avoid those areas. I took Ramsey outside the day after we got her at 9 weeks. She loves outside....so many sticks, leaves, and bugs to pounce and chase. She'd stay out there for hours if I let her.
Have fun with your baby. Mine is my gardening companion....even if that means she's biting OFF the flower blooms or digging a nice hole
