| Pet Insurance - What's Hot? What's Not? Okay.... so my furbaby comes home this Saturday and it is time to get serious about getting pet insurance. I need recommendations! Is there a company you're with that you like? Is there a company you'd suggest avoiding at all cost? |

Donating YT 14K Club Member | Good questions! I've always wondered the reasoning behind it. I don't know of any vet in town that accepts pet insurance but I know that with AKC, once you send in your puppy papers, you get 2 or 3 months of free health insurance. I've never had to use mine.

| Well, my purpose for pet insurance is to pay for accidents or prohibitively expensive procedures he may need. I don't want to face a decision between debt and pet. I can handle routine maintenance, but I think with pet insurance, you can get reimbursed for routine maintenance, depending on the policy. Instead of the vet filing a claim, you pay up front, then file the claim yourself. At least, I THINK that's how it works. Last edited by Enikuo; 04-05-2006 at 02:12 PM. |

| I have Ginger insured through PetCare. It’s only $10 a month with a $75 deductible and it covers illness, vehicle accidents, poison ingestion, fractures…lots of serious stuff, not check-ups or shots. It’s more for emergencies.

| Otis has this one: http://www.petshealthplan.com/?utm_i...utm_medium=ppc It's gotten quite expensive at $50 a month, but it covers 80 percent of everything, including flea control, heartworm, vaccinations, emergency stuff. It also covers $320 worth of annual dentistry. |

| We have VPI and it has payed for itself after 3 months. Lola has had some medical problems and they have covered some of the cost. This money they have payed is in excess of what we will pay for the year. I think it is a good thing for your peace of mind. It might be good to try it for a year, but you never know when you may need it. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I have VPI an so far out of 1500.00 they denied it all for either preexisting or genetics related. I just sent in another 2700.00 in charges and know they won't pay for most of it because it was for spaying and liver shunt testing but some was for a possible blockage. Next time I get pet insurance I will make sure I have it the day I bring my puppy home so nothing can be preexisting.
