| K-9 advantix I have been putting advantix on lexi for months now but for some reason tonight when i put it on she started freaking out, trying to rub it off, and running around all fast and low to the ground. It has been 6 hours now, and it is 1 a.m. and she is still acting real hyper and afraid of me like i did something to her. I have taken her out to go potty a few times so far tonight and when i do she runs back in the house and to the bathroom and cowers...what is the matter. i hate to see her like this, should i go to the vet first thing in the a.m.???

| Sounds like it irritated her skin. Keep an eye on her. Hope she feels better soon.

| Do an online search. It has been a while since I've read about it but from what I remember, now that she has had a reaction it can get worse with each new application. Some of the symptoms I remember are like you described but they can also get blisters, lose the hair where it's applied, have seizures and even death. Call your vet. Also, report it to the company and the Enviromental Protection Agency. So many people don't and that is why you don't hear much about the bad reactions. I did a quick search - here is one of a few I found.... http://www.dogsadversereactions.com/...urvivors3.html

| I can't find exactly why but people suggested washing them with dish soap (Dawn was the brand I read but I don't think it matters). This site is for Bio Spot but also mentions Advantix, has a ton of links and how to report it.... http://www.elversonpuzzle.com/biospot.html

| thank you for the advice if we got three hours of sleep last night it was alot, and she is still hyper and doesn't want to come near us. I called the vet this morning as soon as we got up and they don't think it is a reaction bc she has had advantix before they think it might be another cause and to keep an eye on her. She has no irriation at the site, nor vomiting or seizing so they said that can't be it but howcome her freaking out started about 10 mintues after i applied it? I called the number on the advantix box to report it last night and they said to me that these were unusual side effects and kinda could care less.

| I called the vet this morning as soon as we got up and they don't think it is a reaction bc she has had advantix before they think it might be another cause and to keep an eye on her. It could be something else but just because she had it before without problems does not mean it wasn't the cause. Look at the poor Golden Retriever in the first link I posted. She was fine with the first two doses. It's the third that she had a reaction to and the vet had no idea, gave them no warning so they applied it a fourth time the next month causing a more severe reaction. That is not uncommon. There are more stories just like that. She has no irriation at the site, nor vomiting or seizing so they said that can't be it but howcome her freaking out started about 10 mintues after i applied it? Trust your gut. Luckily, it was mild but what you described are symptoms of a reaction to these products. I called the number on the advantix box to report it last night and they said to me that these were unusual side effects and kinda could care less. This is not surprising at all. Deny, Deny, Deny! That's big business for you. They know it happens. They have reimbursed vet fees when pushed. Vets can misdiagnose it and on top of that many times the reactions aren't reported so the companies can keep saying it's unusual and uncommon. I hope Lexi is feeling better today.

| I hope Lexi is better today. I had a mini schnauzer that actually lost all of its hair in the application spot from this product. The hair never did grow back. I will not use it for my babies now. I called the company and they told me it wasn't from their product that I must've used something else. I can tell you I did not use something else and I refuse to allow someone to tell me I did. This dog had been using it for about 10mos. before the hair loss. I agree that this was probably an reaction to the product. |

| My Gracie used to have a very similar reaction to Frontline. After application she would run around kind of low to the ground and just act very weird and hyper. She never had any physical symptoms on the skin and the strange thing was if I applied the Frontline to the other dog first she would start the running around before I even put it on her. I guess she could smell it. I switched to Advantage and she did the same thing. I finally stopped using anything and my husband treats the yard and I keep Capstar on hand in case I do see a flea. So far that's working for us and we made it through last summer. Hopefully our luck will hold. |

| well after almost 23 hours of being up she finally crashed and went to sleep, thank god....you have no idea how much i adore sleep after this event. There was nothing we could do to calm her down she just wanted to run around the house and rub her body on everything. We slept a solid 9 hours, which she and i needed dearly. I was getting to the point i was having a hard time functioning. She is fine now, i guess it has warn off...so now what do I DO. SHould i switch to another flea and tick med or what. Should i not apply anything at all? We live in MISSISSIPPI where it gets real hot i am sure the fleas and ticks love it here, so what should i do. What does eveyone else use? I don't want to have to go through this situation again, and i still need to report it to someone since advantix didn't care, but who. I am going to look on those links that were posted previous to this. Thank you. We are fine and well.

| Hey- I was giving my little one Advantix, started when she was like 5 months old and she weighed about 3lbs- WELL- she would go insane and if she saw me with the vial- she would run and hide. Then when I could catch her - she would fight like crazy. She had about 8 doses and I finally stopped it and switched to Advantage for cats. She doesn't act like before- just a little running to rub it off right after I put it on. I hope your baby is ok and I am looking into other ways to prevent fleas and ticks- we have a lot of them due to living out with the deer and racoons etc. |

YT 3000 Club Member | I use revolution on chester it is actually better, all this other stuff is actually a pesticide, revolution is actually a drug. I dont know about anybody else but I will not put a pesticide on my boy. Revolutio is much more water resistant, covers heartworm sarcoptic mange, american dog tick, and ear mites, hope the info helps. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I was given Revolution for cali but I am afraid to use it on her. i am going to wait until we get warmer weather here in Chicago as she is rarely outside and my pom has never had fleas in 9 years.

| So should i ask my vet about revolution, i don't want to give her the advantix again specially since a previous post said that the side effects could get worse the second time around. She is fine, since she was up for almost 23 hours she has slept most of today but i think she is fine, eating, playing and rough housing with daddy.

| I live in Coastal Texas where it's also hot and humid much of the year, and our vet has withdrawn his support for Revolution. When it first came out, he recommended it, along with Sentinel, but over the years found out that these combo pills just don't have enough heartworm and flea/tick protection for our area. Animals on Revolution and Sentinel were getting heartworm and flea/tick infestations. Our flea/tick problem here is awful because we never get enough cold weather to kill the pests. I use K-9 Advantix on my other dogs with no ill effects but I'm using BioSpot on Bobby. He's so much smaller than my other dogs and BioSpot doesn't seem as strong as the others. It seems to be working fine. Julie |
