| Memory? This is going to sound absolutely ridiculous, but I have a question. My sister said that dog's only have a memory of about, oh, 2 weeks. Well, I'm looking at studying abroad for 4 weeks. My parents have offered to care for Bailey while I'm away, but I'm already having major anxiety over leaving my baby. I don't want him to forget me! Especially because he's so skittish around strangers. Any info/advice? Anyone ever had anxiety over leaving the furbaby? |

| I would like to see a study on that because thats hard for me to believe, but what do I know. I don't think when your sister says 2 week memory she is referring to your baby remembering you. I don't think our babies forget us or their other companions. When I leave for 2 days my in-laws tell me Georgie jumps everytime he hears a car. I don't think you should worry he won't forget you, I am sure you have left too much of an imprint on his life Oh and I have anxiety over leaving Georgie for an evening at dinner so I know how you feel completely

| Hello Bailey's mom (hehe funny we have almost the same name) I don't believe for a minute they only have a memory of only about 2-weeks. My childhood dog which who I don't live with anymore recognizes me everytime I go to my parents house and she gets so excited. I only see her once a month or so, so in my opinion they have the memory of at lease a month LOL.

| Oh, that is most certainly not right. Pivo recognizes me every time I come home, and I have been gone sometimes as long as an entire semester (several months). |

| Oh you go and have a great time. Furbabies always know who their Mom's are.

| When a dog has a very rewarding experience (or a pleasant one that is repeated until it becomes very rewarding) it stores the sights, sounds, scents, tastes and textures of the environment in its long-term memory Thats why they can remember us.scent and enviorment and our voice. Its their short term memory that only last 5-10 minutes.Tests conducted by the University of Michigan concluded that while a dogs memory lasts no more than five minutes, a cat's can last as long as 16 hours .. |

| I don't believe that. My mom moved to Texas and I go once a year and her dogs know me. I also believe dogs grieve the loss of other pet mates, they don't just stop after two weeks. Go and study, have a good time and your furbaby will love you all the same when you get home. |

| I agree with everyone who has posted on your thread. Dogs are very very intelligent. To me mine seem almost human-like in their understanding. We talk to them constantly about certain things they do often and even if you say something that rhymes with it they perk up and start paying attention to you. Don't worry about your baby forgetting you, I think their memories are excellent.
