| Dog names Does anyone have a funny story or just a story behind the name of your yorkie? My yorkie's name is Kitty. When I got her my husband and I were not married but engaged to be and living together. I didn't have a name picked out for her yet. After a couple of days and no name he started calling her Kitty. She acts alot like a cat. (Sleeping on the back of the couch and playing with cat mice, balls, etc.) That is how she got her name. I registered her as Catrina Classy Lady and just call her kitty. When I take my daughter to school alot of the time Kitty goes with us. When she was pregnant the teacher would ask my daughter if her kitty had puppies yet! lol Anyway I hope you enjoyed my story on the name of my yorkie. Any one else? |

My breeder had a dog named Jules and Alexa Rae was just adament that she was going to be named Jewels. I wanted to name her Tinkerbell. Now my daughter has a stuffed yorkie and she named her Tinkerbell LOL.

| Not really a funny reason, but George came from a Brittany Spaniel I had growing up. He (spaniel) went everywhere with me, my Dad says he even ate my ice cream after me too. Needless to say I was very close to him when I was little, but nothing compares to the closeness I have with Georgie #2, it's just something sooo special about a Yorkie

| My dogs always get human names and I wanted something English to fit the breed. I was initially planning on naming him Nigel but my son said he didn't "look" like a Nigel. Andrew suggested "Bobby" since it's what English policemen are called. We thought the little chap just "looked" like a "Bobby," too. So, Bobby he is! I haven't chosen his registation name yet. It's going to be Sir Robert of something or other, lol. Julie |

| We'd had Rowdy for about a week and we couldn't settle on a name. My husband was in the hospital and he had lots of tubes and IV's and the like and his nurse decided he needed to take a walk. The nurse was gathering up all the tubes and hoses and she was in front of my husband getting ready to handle all the equipment while they walked. She turned and looked over her shoulder and said to my husband, "Come on Rowdy, let's roll" My husband and I looked at each other and said, "ROWDY" and from that moment on, his name was Rowdy.

| My daughter insisted on naming our baby "Bear"... I wanted Sir Jiminy Cricket and call him Cricket... but Bear he was... he is registered as Hartley's Teddy Bear, but somehow he became a Tootie... he just acts like a "Tootie" so that is how he is now "Tootie Bear" and he listens to both names...

| My 6 year old is named Pivo.. my parents had just returned from a trip to the Czech Republic and thought naming him Pivo Prosim (beer please) would be a great idea. The name stuck! It is pronounced Peevo Proseem. We call him P or Mr. P. Now... I think we are going to name the puppy a Czech name to stay with the theme! We are leaning toward Velky (large, big, sizable, etc.). |

| Well a friend of mine has this tradition of having a name before you get the dog, so I wanted to do that. I thought I wanted a Yorkie named Thor. Mythology aside, Thor is the name of a really cute powerful alien on the TV show Stargate, which we are huge fans of. But I just wasn't sure and one day Thor (the alien) had a counterpart on the show named Loki. Loki is actually the Norse God of Mischief, which fits him perfectly. He is sneaky and smart. It's so him. We thought maybe we were jinxing ourselves by naming him that but it's perfect and we love our little monster.

| My husband works for the local electric company. He was part of a team of people that went down to Louisanna to help restore the electric grid after Katrina hit. He was gone so long, I needed some company, so I got Katy. It only seemed right that some good sould come out the terrible situation. So I named her "Katy" for Hurricane Katrina. |

| We vacationed with friends in FL, actually, we mooched off of them, and fell in love with their yorkie. The following spring the had their first litter. They had 4 puppies, 3 girls and one male. She knew I loved cats and their curl-up-on-your-lap thing. So she picked out the one she thought would best suit me, which happened to be their first born. As luck would have it, they happened to be traveling north a couple of months later for a wedding when my yorkie to be was 16 weeks old. We drove to see them. Gail and I had it all pre-arranged and they brought my new baby with them. In the meantime, she wanted me to pick out a name and she would start calling the puppy by name. I thought long and hard because not seeing the puppy in advance, it had to be just right and fit the little girl. I finally settled on a tribute to our friends, Richard and Gail, "R" for Richard and "G" for Gail, ie. R-G.........Reggie.

| This is an interesting thread...well, the names for my yorkies are not particularly antidotal, but I have always picked British names. For Wimbley (my first yorkie), I named her after a song we played in orchestra, "The Fifes of Wembley", Wembley being a famous football (soccer) stadium. I really liked that WAY BEFORE I even picked her out. So then I kept the theme with Kensington (after Kensington Palace & London borough) then Paddington (which is a London train station). I had their names picked out before I got them too. For the new puppies, I didn't pick Barclay (my mom did since he will be my parents), but it is a street in London. Fenley is a rugby stadium, and well, Scully's name was picked by her owner (which I think is adorable just like she is! ).
