| ![]() Tashasmom, It is not so easy to find Yorkies with tails. Since I purchased my Yorkie I have came accross a few hobby breeders that do not dock tails. If the puppy is being sold as a pet I don't see the need to dock the tail. It would be nice to have a choice. |

| ![]() I agree that there are people out there that shouldn't be docking tails. That is why I leave it to my vet to do on my pups. I am also pleased that there are people out there that want dogs with their tails and they should have a choice. Unless I have someone waiting for a pup and wants the tail left I will continue to let my vet dock their tails. I have a litter of 5 and only 1 boy and everyone on my list wanted a boy or it is not a good time right now so since I didn't have homes lined up for the girls I had their tails done too. ![]() |

| ![]() I understand that this is a big issue to many. But until the standard is changed, if the docking is done at a time where there is the least amount of pain possible, I think we need to focus on other issues that threaten this breed more. Such as liver shunts that are becoming more and more common, the large amount of Yorkshires in rescues, and the large amount of them bred too small to be "teacups". This is something we all can agree and work together to change. JMO.

| ![]() I am glad that you have replied to this thread. I really had no idea that others preferred to have tails long. Just because I like them short doesn't mean that others shouldn't be able to enjoy long tails. I thought I already responed that that one post sounded harsh. I didn't mean it that way..i guess it came out wrong. Sorry bout that. But I will say if someone wanted a pup from me and they told me ahead of time. i would not dock the tail of the one they wanted if they didn't have it that way. I don't think docking is something that has to be done. I just like the looks of it docked and I don't think it's cruel to do it. So that said. I have to say I had no idea I was so in to tails or stubs lol i've posted more on this thread than I have on any other..including others I've started as well lol.. I agree there are more important things to discuss but this thread is about tails and I think it's important to know how people feel on this aspect as well.

| ![]() The picture didn't bother me, but then again, very little does. Like I said, I've disected cadavers...it's all down hill from there...lol. I must say that if someone came to me and said they wanted one of our pups without the tail docked, I would oblige them the request on one condition. I would never have a tail docked on an older dog without anesthesia...I would insist on it being performed as a surgical procedure. Should the person change their mind after the first week, I've got a pup with a tail that I run the risk of having trouble placing because it has not been made "standard." (Not saying that's right, this is just my view.) In order for me to leave the tail in tact, I would require them to put down a non-refundable deposit in the amount of what it would cost to have the tail docked at a later date. Of course, I think the odds of running accross such a request are slim to none, but IMO, that is how I would handle it. |
