I am sorry you had to take your pup back but you did the right thing. You'll be crazy about your new one in no time at all. My first pup got a little sick when I first brought him home and it puts a little damper on the whole experience. You don't know what else could come up and be wrong with that other dog. That pet store is very uncaring selling that dog without getting it better first. |
:'( This is all very sad. I'm sure you will love the new yorkie just as much if not more than Geanalyn. Some new names: Finn, Mikey, Louie. Welcome to Yorkie Talk. I hope you stick around and let us know how your new baby is doing in his new home! :) |
You did absolutely the right thing. You'll come to be attached to your new little boy in no time. |
I have been reading your story and crying along with you. It is very sad when you have to say goodbye to a puppy you love. I am sure the new little guy will find a place in your heart soon . I think Buddy is a good name for him or maybe Lucky . Thinking of you Fran |
what about the name jean ???????? |
Poor baby. She's having a very hard time already and can't enjoy her new home. When I started looking for my puip, the first thing I learned was to NEVER purchase a pure breed from a pet store of ANY kind. I did about 6-8 mos research and went through about 6-8 different breeders in all parts of the world. I wanted a companion to share my home and my heart with and I was willing to wait for what I wanted. You say you're in NJ, will I too am on the east coast. I chose a breeder that was listed on the AKC & YTCA websites. They were on the west coast. Yes, I spent $ flying there to get him, but it was worth every penny for his well being as well as mine. There are so many reputable breeders out there, you just have to look carefully.... remeber...good things come to those who wait. |
I just got back online and read your post. I'm sorry you had to go through what you did. Hopefully the next person to adopt your little girl from the pet store will be able to recognize the symptoms as you did. I sure understand about getting attached at a pet store. We held a Yorkie at a mall pet store, we actually went in to look at another kind of dog. The pet store clerk would not answer me when I asked how much for the Yorkie until we had him in our arms. Of course $1200 was too much for us, so we had to leave him behind. When we found Skippy, it was over the internet-the site looked great, it was only two hours from us, in Amish country, Ohio, Wooster, Ohio. We fell in love right away- we paid $750-- and we were on our way. Right from the start, the symptoms started. To make a long story short, he's okay now, after the giardia, kennel cough, yeast infection. I tell our sons that we saved him-and that we were meant to have him. The breeder also lied to us-she told us that he would be 7 or 8 pounds( on the big side) because we didn't want one too small. At the last vet visit, his wt. was 12 pounds. We love him soooo much so this doesn't matter, but it still bothers me that she got away with lying . You willl love your little sweetheart more than you can ever imagine- I'm so glad we got Skippy! You were meant to have your little boy- and the girl you took back was probably meant for someone else too. This might be a silly way of looking at it, but that's how I feel about our dog. Good Luck and have fun...it's kind of like having a new baby in the house ( at least that's what it reminds me of) !! :) |
check coller If you have regular coller, it could be putting too much pressure on the puppies throat. This is very common with yorkies, since they have a genetic weakeness in their trakea. We use a halter, and have had no wheezes. -Chris |
i think you did the right thing, for all parties concerned .... the woman at teh pet store had no right to treat you that way, i dont care if shes thinkign about her buissness or not, spread the word not to buy from them!!!! (i have gotten kicked out of our mall petshop on several occasions for "advising" their costumers to buy from a breeder.....lol..... ive even taken a pennysaver in teh store with me to show people the price difference) anyways, having a boy i think is a little different then a girl..... boys are truly BOYS,. . . (i think i personally prefer female, but i wouldnt trade my guy for the world) . . . im sure you will be there just as much for youre little boy... as for names, what is his personality like??? names: Leo (leonardo), Dante (i love this name), |
As I said in my earlier post...I had to take a puppy back too. I TOTALLY know how you feel. :( It was one of the hardest things I have ever done. I cried a lot too. You will feel better though. This new puppy sounds like he was meant for you. Names....how about "Bitsy" ? ;) I also like Sampson, Jackson, Jax, Stevie, and Emilio. Good luck. |
I hope you are already in love with your new little guy! I am sure you are. Don't worry about the other puppy. I am sure she will get well and find a new home with people who will love her too. The picture of the new puppy sleeping is adorable. Your new breeder gave you some good advice and is local so she will be a great resource! It sounds like she really cares. Other name suggestions would be "Teddy" and "Ernie". Good luck! |
Best of luck to you with your new puppy, I'm so sorry that you are so sad. Keep us posted on how your new puppy is doing and spread the word about NOT buying puppies from pet shops. How about naming her "cupcake?" Hugs, |
Hi everyone! again, you all are right. I am already attached to our new little boy! But i still think about Geanalyn as well. I wonder what/how she is doing all the time. I really hope a loving family picked her up already out of that pet store! And hope that she is feeling better as well. As for our new boy, we decided to name him Lucky Chance in memory of Geanalyn. We were Lucky to have Geanalyn for those 3 days even though she was sick. Lucky as well to find this great message board for all the help and support we needed. Geanalyn gave us a Chance to see how pet stores treat their pets and a Chance to spread the word around to locals never to buy from Pet Stores! Once again, thank you all for your supports! Earlier this morning, i just taught Lucky how to fetch and put the toys back in his little corner :D I can't wait to get home today and teach him some more tricks and commands! I especially want to teach him how to play dead with the  "BANG" command! ithink that is AWESOME! We will bring Lucky to Petco this saturday for the vet visit. Luvmypet.com and Petedge.com are great websites! check it out Thank You Everyone! Regards, Cris and Rhod - proud parents of Lucky Chance :aimeeyork i will post up better pictures of Lucky once i get home later on |
 Aww! That's such a sweet name! Great choice! I look forward to seeing more pics of him! |
Exciting Drama! Man that was a cliff hanger that's the most Drama we have had on here. I feel for you! If I were a Millionaire I would probably have at least 20 Yorkies, even though my 2 are a handful! They are all soooo sweet and lovable it's very hard to return a Baby in need, but there really was a point to be made in returning her. A high price does not mean Quality. I personally hate Pet Stores for selling dogs the way they do especially in that condition! Well now that you have been through the worse you can appreciate a Healthy Baby Boy! You want a Baby that is active and Happy not one in any pain and misery. You did the right thing not just financially but for the Principle. When got my first one I paid $3,000.00 for my male Artie, he had an ear infection, kennel cough and worms, plus he was Traumatized for Life regarding crates from the Flight/shipping from Florida to Boston. Endless Vet. appointments, medications, tests. I was so worried and he was always sleeping because he didn't feel good. I was so stressed out about his well being. But since I purchased him from a Breeder on the Internet (he was a Birthday Present) I'm very impatient I wanted him and I received him within 2 days. Luckily he is as strong as an Ox now and nursing him back to health made our bond even stronger in fact it's as if we can speak to each other. Enough mushy stuff the moral of my story is I learned from my experience that was before I found Yorkie Talk, to do your research since then I just purchased a female Abigail she is only 8 weeks old and she is wild in comparison, I find that the males are closer to the women and the females are closer to the men. In my case any way, this time I only paid $1,000.00 and she fit my strict criteria as well as far as particular characteristics. She actually was a bargain compared to my male and I think she even has more Champions in her Bloodline than him. I now know what the difference is......if I had to choose between the two a sick or healthy one? Of course the healthy one is a lot easier! Fortunately his illness was not too serious and easy to cure. I love them both but my Artie is more special to me because I know what he went through! Congratulations on your new Yorkie! I'm sure you will all be very happy together, and you Families will love him too! As far as a name? You will find one based on his personality? I'm glad and relieved to hear a happy ending. :aimeeyork Take care and Good Luck I'm sure if you need any help with anything you will let us know? :p |
