Well, Kennle cough is not serious usually, but if your puppy has diarrhea with it then it is serious. Is it water, the diarrhea? If it is the puppy needs immediate care, take your finger drip water on it, and feed it to puppy until you go to the vet. |
her diarrhea is not pure watery, just really really reallllllly soft! I just hope that we get the help and attention we need later on tonight at the vet. |
First thing's first, congratulations on your new baby!!! I am very sorry to hear that she is sick, I feel really bad for people who finally get there little babies, only to bring them home and have problems with them being sick!! It is suppost to be a happy time you shouldnt be worrying about her being sick. I would have to agree with everyone else that it sounds like kennel cough. The diarreha could be alot of differnt things. If you are still going to take her to that vet tonight, I would definetaly go to another vet for a second opinion, one that is not affiliated with the store you bought her from. If they sold you a sick puppy, (and im sure they knew she was sick when you bought her) I dont think you can trust the vet they use either! I hope everything goes well for you all, and let us know what the vet tells you! |
Hello and welcome to Yorkie Talk. I agree with everyone else, take her to a private vet. I'm not sure if anyone else has mentioned this, but if she is not eating I would give her some nutri-cal or some peanut butter so that you’re not risking Hypoglycemia. |
sounds like kennel cough to me we have a pet company here too we got our pepper there 9 years ago oh its terrible now awful is a better word most likely they would not take her back cause it can be taken care of i would not take her to the vet there get your own vet pet company my mother had said peppers hair was ruff they told her to make him eat bacon grease  i dont know if there the same at yours they prob are since it is a petstore get your own vet i hope she feels better:D |
Hi and welcome. You do have a beautiful family. Congratulations. O.K., when my Sophia first came home she was having trouble with eating and had diarrhea. After many trials, I got her some Nutro puppy food in the can (green label.) It is so great. It has all the right ingredients for these puppies and she really loves it. She basically wouldn't eat anything else. It is not that expensive at all and the best part is you can get it at Petsmart. Please consider trying this food. It really worked with my pup. Her diarrhea instantly went away. I also highly recommend getting some Nutrical. The puppies love it and it really makes a big difference when they won't eat. They are at high risk for Hypoglycemia. I also recommend taking her to a different vet. The initial exam just to make sure she is o.k. is usually only $30 or so (at least where I live.) Best of luck and please keep us posted. I'm sure she will be fine. She just needs lots of tender loving care, and perhaps some doggie meds. (AND some Nutro puppy food!!) ;) |
Kennel Cough! That sounds like Kennel Cough, you should see a Vet. period ASAP! We are all attached to our Babies, but in reality as a Consumer, if you paid that price for that puppy he should be in perfect health and have an incredible Bloodline, be AKC. registered, micro-chipped and everything! You need to stop being emotional and think with your head first & foremost. You might as well cut your losses and deal with all of your pets/baby's problems? If it's only Kennel Cough and finicky diet that's easy to take care of. But if something is seriously wrong? I would make the Pet Store pay/return/refund or something? They are responsible! It pays to do research first. Sorry you had such a bad experience, Good Luck! :( |
i would get her to the vet as soon as possiable before she gets really sick, she is a beautiful baby ,i wouldnt waste any time and do let us know .welcome to yorkie talk :aimeeyork |
Just read these posts and am wondering what the vet said. I took my puppies to the breeder\'s vet for the "free" initial visit and she was very honest with me. One of mine had developed coocidia and hypoglycemia in the to days I had her. If they get an upset stomach they will stop eating and if they miss one meal they can get very sick with low blood sugar. I had to syringe feed on of my puppies for a week so he wouldn\'t die and he was placed on an IV for fluid and stayed at the vet\'s for several hours. I agree that if the "free" vet says there\'s nothing to worry about I would definitely find a small dog vet in your area who is intimately familiar with the health issues for yorkies. Congratulations on you new addition. I am sure she will be fine. I hope she gets better soon. |
First of all...Congrats on your new baby! I don\'t want to sound rude either but I do want to strongly encourage you to take your pup to the vet ASAP. It\'s a good idea to always take a new pup to the vet within the first 24/48 hours regardless if they are sick or well. It\'s also good to take them to a vet that is not associated with the pet store, someone whom can give you an unbiased opinion. Hopefully all is well with your little one but these small breeds can get extremely sick and go down hill very quickly. Better safe than sorry and for peace of mind take her to the vet. |
took her to the vet earlier. The vet where The Pet Company gave us FREE for our first visit. I can honestly say that thanks to you guys, we were able to get good service. I was on top of things letting the lady vet know every little detail about our sick 3month old yorkie. As I told her pretty much the whole story as indicated in the first post, also explaing how she was $2,500 expensive, she concluded that our yorkie is "unfit for sale" due to kennel cough and tracheobronchitis. She gave us a choice to either keep her and treat her to make her feel better, or the option to return her if we wanted. She gave us pills for our dog "jenna short for Geanalyn" to take called Chloramphenicol 250mg 1/4 tablet every 8hrs. She explained to us that this would treat her sickness. I need everybody\'s opinion on what we should do now. This is where we currently stand. Our currently sick yorkie cost us $2,500 and today at work, I was searching for a yorkie on the internet for sale, and LUCKILY came across a 2 month old female yorkie just 15 miles away from us. After the vet visit, we visited where the yorkie for sale resides. Her price tag is $1,000. That\'s $1,500 we can save if we do return our current sick yorkie and just get this family owned puppy yorkie. What do you think? We really are stuck and dont know what to do and maybe your opinion will help us make our final decision. I know we have only had our sick yorkie for 3 days now, but I am ALREADY SO ATTACHED to her! :aimeeyork we are both college students so it would help if we save money, but at the same time, I am thinking of what will happen to our current sick yorkie if we do give her back. Would she be ok? Will she still be up for sale when we return her? We both just want the best for her and hope that she gets better and get all the love and care she deserve. Sorry for such a long post but I just wanted to vent and share with you all our current situation. So bottom line, is it worth keeping our $2,500 sick yorkie and try our best to take good care of her and hope she gets better. Or return her to purchase the $1,000 2month old yorkie and save $1,500. Sorry for the short notice, but we need to make up our mind today saturday by 1pm est. Thank you all for your time! And we appreciate all your help and opinion |
I think it would be very difficult to give the puppy back after you are so attached to her. I would approach the manager of the puppy store where you bought her and ask for a discount on the price for your troubles. Explain that you found a healthy puppy for a lot less and you want to keep this one but you feel you deserve a discount due to her condition. You may have some luck with this if they are kind hearted. If that didn\'t work, my vote would be to keep her. Really the $2500 you will pay since you bought her on credit will seem like a nominal sum over the years as you discover the love and joy she gives you everyday! |
:lightbulb Quote:
this is why a lot more heads are better than one! :D i didn\'t think of that! that is what i will do FIRST THING tomorrow morning when the mall opens. I will try to talk to them and see if they can do anything to lower the price because of the condition. I hope they help me out. any other suggestions on what to do? thank you all! :D |
I think I would DEMAND some money back and threaten them if they don\'t reimburse you at least for the cost of medications. and I wish I were kidding, but I am definitely not. I\'m really sorry about your baby girl. These stories make me sick. |
This is what I would do. Pretend for a few minutes that you returned her. She is really gone. You know you will have a new puppy soon. How do you feel? If you think you can do it then return her. If you can\'t bare the thought of not having her keep her. I know how you feel about the money. I went to look at yorkie puppies, just wanted to look. They put a puppy in my arms before I thought to ask how much they cost. When they told me he was $1800 I said forget it. I\'m not paying that much for a dog. Of course I left with him. :p Socalyorkilvr is absolutely right. He was worth every cent and I never regretted taking him. |
