Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | Oh shoot - which one ate chocolate ? was it alot ? If it was just a little...you may be ok... Go here to read more...http://www.dogicuts.com/index_files/toxic.htm and here...http://www.peteducation.com/article....articleid=2238 Chocolate’s problem ingredients are theobromine and caffeine, which are rapidly absorbed through the gastrointestinal tract and metabolized in the liver. White chocolate contains the smallest amounts of caffeine and theobromine, while the concentration of both chemicals increases as one moves to milk chocolate, semisweet chocolate, bittersweet chocolate, and baking chocolate. The darker the chocolate, the more dangerous it is to dogs. As little as 20 ounces of milk chocolate, or only 2 ounces of baking chocolate, can cause serious problems in a 10-pound dog. Honey weighed 70 pounds, and she died after eating 24 ounces, or slightly less than 1˝ pounds, of semisweet chocolate. Signs Common signs include vomiting, diarrhea, panting, hyperactivity, restlessness, ataxia, muscle tremors, increased or decreased heart rate, irregular heart rhythm, increased body temperature. Seizures, coma, or death may occur. Less frequent symptoms include abdominal pain and blood in the urine. |

| OH NO!!!!! I hope everything is OK. OK we hear a lot about chocolate, and how bad it is for furbabies, I know some just can't have any, but I did have a friend who put a box of See's Candy on her table, whent to take a shower, and when she came back, the candy was gone Yes, her furbaby ate the box, she had diarrhea the next day, but that was about it. Hope things work out OK for you! Hang in there, it might be a long night.

| Milk chocolate is a lot less toxic than unsweetened baking chocolate or even semisweet chocolate. It really depends on how much she ate, what type, and how much she weighs. I know right at first a vet can induce vomiting or pump their stomach, but this option goes away quickly. You might want to call your vet and tell them her weight, what type of chocolate, and how much, and how long ago and let them decide if you should induce vomiting or have her stomach pumped. My mom's maltese at about 4 pounds ate an entire Hershey chocolate bar with no ill effects. Good luck. |

| Last time I took Georgie to the vet another dog came in and had just ate baker's chocolate. I asked ther vet about it and she said that's the worst along with dark chocolate. She said a small amount of milk or white chocolate would probably upset their stomach but may pass through quickly.
