Red Legged?

I would think he is a definite reg leg...the red legs coat is a bit course to the touch, grows very slow and will never be of normal length or texture...The colors of the gold are very deep almost like a burnt copper.

I have been doing alot of research for years and have never read about red leg yorkies. I have read about blue, and gold, yorkies but never red leg yorkies. Is that a hereditary gene that causes that or just a freak of nature?

Years ago Mrs. Annie Swan, of the Invincia Yorkies, told us to keep one in our breeding program. She said everyone kept a so called "Red". They occasionally appeared from silky coated parents. No one ever showed them, but since they had the ability to return color pattern to it's proper boundaries and the ability to darken the color of a lighter dog when bred to them, they were on occasion bred in. Bred to cottony or wooly texture they usually have little effect. Bred to silk texture they improve color. Bred together they usually produce themselves and occasionally a lovely colored silk dog - but this is the exception.

I guess I'm a little disapointed that Dylan won't have a very good coat but on the bright side I usually kept my other yorkie, Kramer's coat short anyway. It's a good thing we live in Georgia where it's not to cold (LOL).

The breeder I bought him from said that she was going to use him as a stud. I'm glad I saved him from living his life in a crate. I think that this breeder is borderline puppy mill. She had so many dogs in crates stacked on top of each other. She is the one that showed me the wrong parents and I didn't find out until I received the paperwork that she didn't even own the parents of my baby. She had swapped services with another breeder and gotten the puppy for a stud fee.

Does my Dylan look like Hannah when she was a puppy?

Abigail's hair grows very slow. Her hair sounds just like yours. She is almost 2 and I have had her groomed once just to trim the ends and I have trimmed her ends just a little twice and she still does not have a long coat. We will just keep waiting it will eventually get there. Your little girl is really cute!

Kimberly, could you tell me where I can find more info on keeping a red leg in your breeding program? I can find nothing, but in my quest to darken the colors, this is something I need to research. Any books or websites would be much appreciated. Your yorkies are beautiful, by the way. Hopefully, one day I can be as proud as you must be.

now yall have me wondering about Kizzy. I never heard of a redleg either. next reply I am sending a picture of her and would appreciate a guess of her, if she will have a long coat or short or if she is what is known as a redleg. I really trusted the lady I bought her from until now. I just found out she DOES have a kennel. She has 40 acres of land and of course she had just a few puppies in small cages in her house like that was all she had when I went there. Now I find out she has a kennel with all kind of dogs somewhere on the 40 acres of land so it must be way away from the house as there was no signs of a kennel from what I could see. I am kinda aggravated with her now since she said Kizzy shouldnt be over 4 or 5 lbs and she is already 5 lbs and she is not quiet 4 months old. She did have what she said were her parents in the house too and I believed her. the dad was like 4 lbs and the mom a little under 5 lbs. now i'm wondering if it was the real parents. I think it was the mother but not sure of the dad as the female ran right to the babies when she brought them in the living room. I didnt understand anything about puppy mills until lately. But now I do know that some people register their litters of like 3 or 4 and if 1 or 2 dies they use the extra registration papers for dogs from another litter or even go purchase some that look like their kind from people for a much cheaper price and use the registration papers with them rather in leiu in of the pups that died. anyone hear of this before? I know this happens because my neice had some puppies that were ckc and a guy tried to buy all of hers and he told her that was why he wanted them to replace his that died which were akc. she wouldnt sell them to him either.
People are such cheats at everything today, there is very few people I trust about anything anymore.
well sorry I got into so much but now im really wondering if Kizzy will be 10 lbs or less or have any decent hair or not. grrrrrrrrr, I still love Kizzy whatever and she is smart. She cant help whatever happened.
hope someone can help me quit worrying about her size. She really dont look 5 lbs to anyone that sees her. she dont to me either. her hair doesnt matt and it seems to have a little wavy look to it but not much. I will have to send a pic tomorrow. I have several but I didnt find any where you could tell much as she is laying down or on her back or something n most all of em.

If that is Kizzy in your avatar than I don't think she is a red legged yorkie. She has a lot more hair on her legs than Dylan and the hair on his legs is a dark red with no black. I can't wait to see pictures of her though. She looks like she has a decent coat.

I havent been able to find much in print it is mostly by other breeders in the area. At the rosecity cluster many of us showing all went to lunch where the red leg became a discussion almost of them said the same thing they are gret to deepend the gold coloring in your program but it can take three generations to acheive the best results.

Thanks Kimberly. Unfortunately, the area where I live doesn't have any breeders that I would look to for advice. Even Las Vegas (the closest big city) seems barren of good quality Yorkies. The last show I went to in Vegas (April of this year) there were 21 Yorkies shown and not one was from Nevada. Most all of them were from California, and I didn't see anything there that interested me. Made me very sad. Trust me, your's could've taken it all. There were only 2 that had a decent coat color, so I doubt I'll find info there. Won't stop me tho. I hope to have many years left, and the time and patience. I'm only in the planning stages for this next year. The area where I live puts out some sorry representations of the breed, which is why I'd like to do my part in correcting it. LOL

I'm sending you what I hope is a better pic of Kizzy, I cant seem to get one of her standing because everytime she sees the camera, she sits and looks at it. grrrr. I had her standing on the piano bench and when she saw the camers of course she had to sit down and pose. lol. anyway heres the pic. She does seem to have a nice coat to me, tho it hasnt gotten very long yet. she is almost 4 months old.
