Some people are just idiots! Yesterday I took Kloey to the pet store to get her tooth brush and a few things, after wards I had one more stop to make, it was to are local GNC, so I look inside and there were no one else in there so I figured I would bring Kloey in with me, she has always behaved in stores, I hold her and she just sits in my arms and enjoys being around others, so I'm at the register ringing up my purchace and in walks this man and woman, he looks at me and Kloey then says, "ohh I guess I will go get my dog to" so the lady at the counter looks at me and rolls her eyes, and a few seconds later in walks this guy with a Golden Retreiver! Hello! I'm holding a 6 pound dog, that has a diaper on, and he walks his dog in on a leash! I wanted to say to him, If I jump off a brige, are you going to follow me! Some people, I swear! |
Well, if the store let you in and not him, they could get in trouble for discrimination. |
He actually went to his car to get his dog? I use to get a$$holes all the time giving me crap about my dog....I don't take her as much these days. PPL SUCK thats why i love my dog so much. |
Yes he sure did! They walked in and he saw Kloey in my arms and said he was going to go get his dog and thats just what he did. There was no sign on the front door that says no pets aloud, but still she is small, she was in my arms, she never touched the ground so what does it matter if they go into a store? I understand restarunts, cause food and all, but even if you have a carrier for them, why cant they go into walmart and etc... ? |
I have been kicked out of Target, Kmart etc because they have food. I don't go in these stores to buy food. Fred Meyer, I worked there for 9 yr....they were not allowed to kick you (they had a lawsuit over a therapy dog) out then in the past 6 mo they changed the rules, no more dogs allowed. |
I think that if your dog is in your arms then what problem to they cause. but when their on a lead they can get upto anything. That bloke needs to grow up!! |
I can understand the whole "Can't bring dogs into the supermarket b/c of all the food." But get this: I brought Baby into Shoprite (supermarket) once. I know I shouldn't have, but anyway... The manager came up to me and said: Mam, you can't bring a dog in here. It will contaminate the food, and then I'll have to throw out all the food in the place. THEN he goes onto say: Now, if your dog were a seeing eye dog, that would be okay. So, my question is this...if a Yorkie can "contaminate" all the food, why can't a seeing eye dog? I'm not saying seeing eye dogs shouldn't be allowed, I'm just saying, they are both dogs, and he shouldn't have used that excuse! DUH!! Just tell me, "Get your dog out!" I would have had more respect for that! |
It does not make any sence to me, whenever I take Kloey anywhere she has a diaper on, so shes not going to wee-wee anywhere, and if the dog is in your arms or a pet carrier, how are they going to contaminate the food? I mean, it's not like we take them to the food section and let them touch the food There  just jealous cause they dont have a Yorkie!!! hehehe |
My husband went into a Hair Cuttery the other day just to see how long the wait was so Pita and I went in to just to hear the wait time. She never left my arms and this women was havin a fit about gettin the dog out of there it's a state law blahblahblah... so we just all left and he didn't get his hair cut that day. Some people are just too hysterical. Home Depot always kicks us out too. Now which is worse, smelly sweaty men or sweet lil yorkies? The remark about the seeing eye dog is so inane, just because it's a service dog means it's not a dog??? So stupid. Service dogs walk on the floor too not like the furbabies in our arms and purses! |
With the growing trend of people wanting to take their dogs in public we will be seeing more and more "No Pets Allowed" signs posted is my guess. I will continue to "sneak" Ransom into places (Schatzie too large). I guess I have issues w/ too many establishments posting rules that don't make sense and i find that Ransom is cleaner than most humans I see out and about. I shake my head in confusion knowing that I am bringing in more germs on the bottom of my shoes, than Ransom is hiding in my purse carrier. I have yet to be asked to leave but I am sure that day will come. And in regards to BabyFidgette's post saying the store manager advises the Yorkie will contaminate all the food is insane. This person doesn't have a clue whatsoever. Ugh!! |
Some people are just ridiculous! I had Jaxon in his carry bag and we went into the Liquor store. He is so quiet and you'd never even know he's there! One lady really gave me a look and I was just waiting for her to say something. I'll take him where I want - I figure he's in the carrier and not walking around so no harm done. ;) |
I guess I have to disagree. You can't compare a service dog with a pet. I'm disabled and, while I don't have a service dog, I do understand the need because I have to use a walker the way a blind person uses a service dog to go out. The Americans with Disabilities Act requires the admission of service dogs to establishments. These are perfectly trained dogs and, frankly, there just aren't that many people who use them so it's not like there are lots of them in stores all of the time. If SOME dogs are permitted in stores, though, then ALL pets have to be admitted to stores since, I'm sure, every dog lover could make an argument for their pet. And while some pet owners are responsible, many are not! As big a pet lover as I am, I would not want to go to a grocery store where there were dozens of pets. I had a chihuahua in a carrier lunge at me in a public place because I was close to its owner. That thing was an inch from biting me. I cannot imagine being in the produce aisle selecting vegetables with lots of people who are carrying dogs in close quarters. They could lunge and snap. Plus, there are many small children in stores who could approach the dog and be bitten. Many people have animal allergies, too. There are just too many reasons why dogs in stores can be aproblem. I enjoy taking my dogs to Petco and that's "our time." We get ready, we go and enjoy, and then I bring them back. I schedule Petco outings for times when I have no other errands to run. I agree that the other guy with the big dog behaved like an idiot; that's a really good indication, though, of what would happen if some dogs were allowed in stores. Julie |
Stores and other public places generally have rules - either pets are allowed or they aren't. These same rules need to apply across the board to everyone. How can a store or public place differentiate between different breeds and different size dogs???? Most of these rules have nothing to do with what breed or size your dog is. They often are following Health Department regulations that don't allow pets in whatever type establishment they are operating. I know that a lot of us think that because our dogs are small - we can just take them anyplace. Not true!!! We should only take our dogs into places where pets are allowed. I feel very strongly about this and have never approved of "sneaking" our little guys into places where pets are not allowed. If I were the golden retriever owner, I probably would not have gone out and brought my dog into the store. But, I certainly agree with his thinking that if your dog was allowed -- his was too. Also - he may have just been making a point. I certainly wouldn't call him an "idiot." He may have been a very nice man with a well behaved dog. Carol Jean |
I'm sorry but my yorkie is not a "dog" she's a baby! She is probably cleaner then most kids that are allowed into a store and she is much more behaved then some kids, my baby don't throw a fit if she dont get her new stuffed toy that she is just dying to rattle around in her mouth, she don't throw herself down on the floor and kick and scream like some of these kids now days do. I strongly feel if my baby is in a carrier or my arms, then she has all the right to be in a store. I would never take her where there is food, but if I need to run into an office to pay a bill, or go to the post office to mail something and if she wants to go, by golly she is going to go in with me! |

I have a yorkie and a great dane and would NEVER bring my dog into any kind of store its rude to others in there even if noone is in there. Some people don't like dogs and some people are allergic. And not everyone keeps there pets as clean and cared for as us yt people LOl, so its best never to take them. If I owned a bussiness outside my home I would throw out anyone with an animal, its just not proffessional. My friends use to bring there dog to our house it was a small mixed dog around 30 lbs or so and I would get so PI**ed just because we have dogs did'nt give them the right to bring theres it would shed and get on my furniture and it licked to no end, finally after the 3rd time I told them never to bring there dog to my house again. We had a hurricane here 2 yrs ago they came to our house for saftey cuz they live in a trailer and got mad and left when I told them there dog had to be crated the entire stay.. Some people like having lots of dogs around family andf friends dogs but I find it rude and disrespectful to do that. Everyone is diffrent I guess! |
I take my dog everywhere but I don't flaunt her. She is in my purse and she is cleaner than a lot of stuff people carry in their purses. I also take her with me to visit people, but I ask first. If she can't come (never happens) I wouldn't go. I never set her down, she just lays in my lap sticking her head out of the purse. If she was a dog that had to be down on the floor I wouldn't take her. Yes, I realize I am still breaking the rules but I don't care. I like her company and she likes mine. People with allergies aren't affected by Yorkies and they don't shed. |
I too take my dog everywhere with me. If a store doesn't want you to bring your animal in they they should have it posted on the door. My Bailey is always in his carrier and never exposed and I don't make a big deal about him being with us. I have been asked to leave a few places, including my sons basketball game, but such is life. I don't think it is rude to take my dog places with me and I invite everyone from YT to bring their dogs to my house. My house is always open to 2 and 4 legged friends. |

YouGetTheSmiles --- I'm sorry - your Yorkie is a dog - not a baby. Dogs go to the vet - babies don't... Dogs get puppy shots and Parvo shots .... babies don't... Dogs eat dog food - babies don't.... Dogs go for walks on leases .... babies don't.... Dogs run around the house on four legs - babies don't... etc. etc. etc. etc.....so much more!!!! I know what you mean when you say your pup is your little "baby." But, try and make an appointment for him with a pediatrician (and visit the pediatrician's office with him)....you'll learn quickly that he's not a baby...he's a "puppy." My little guys are like children to me too and are spoiled rotten - I love mine as much as you love yours, but I certainly don't take them where dogs or pets aren't allowed. I relish in enjoying my dogs because they are dogs... don't we all know that dogs have special wonderful traits and qualities that people don't have. They are a special joy for all of us. And, they are especially loveable. That's why we love them so much. And, I especially love mine for exactly what he is.....a little puppy dog. He's precious! Carol Jean |
Well, as the above-mentioned "misinterpreter," I will elaborate. If the health department inspector saw your dog or any other pet in the grocery store, they could probably close the place down. At the very least, the store woud have to be cleaned and inspected further. The laws might require that fresh food be trashed. Service dogs have to meet strict training and health guidelines and the agency ensures they are up-to-date on their shots. So when a service dog -- which is allowed by federal law to enter establishments -- comes into a store, it is known they are current on vaccines and healthy. Maybe the wording the manager used wasn't correct but it is true that he would be in serious trouble for having a pet in his store -- and all it would take is for one shopper to call the health department and say there was a pet in the grocery store. When there's a report, there has to be an investigation. |
Amen, Carol Jean!!! I absolutely adore mine, too, BECAUSE they're dogs, not despite the fact that they're dogs! And I really think they need to be allowed to enjoy being dogs and not be expected to act like something else. Julie |
The health dept doesn't allow animals in any type of store that sells food, in my area. There is an exemption for seeing eye dogs. |
What a rude nut case, just the kind you would accidently like to trip on the way out. I pitty his poor pet! |
LOndonTeaTime - This is how the Health Department works. If they saw you in a store with a dog - they would first ask you to leave. Then they would speak with the store manager and remind him that dogs are not allowed in his store and that an employee should have ask you to leave immediately- they would ask why this hadn't happened and remind the manager of the fine he could be given - and they'd make note of this finding on their report regarding this particular store. (This is what would happen if the Health Inspector was doing his job.) The Health Department often gives warnings - but they do not give warnings the second or third time around. They impose fines! My brother-in-law owns a restaurant, and wouldn't you know it ---a Health Inspector is one of his regular customers. We all know this man well and have discussed his job with him many times. I agree - that many of you have gone in and out of places many times where your dog isn't allowed - without anyone saying anything to you. What can I say! Carol Jean |
For those who say yorkies don't shed and don't affect poeple with allergies you are 100% WRONG! My Mil is allergic to my yorkie and ALL dogs, my sil is a vet and said that yorkies are easier on people with allergies because they shed LESS not shed not at all. And because of the quality of hair they have, but yorkies still carry dander and that is what people are allergic too. I love my yorkie as much as the next one and I consider her family, but I consider her first a dog, a wonderful dog but a dog. And I don't understand putting your dog in a carrier or purse and taking her everywhere I go. I understand if you love that sorta thing but I am a firm beliver that for everyone that likes it there will be one that does'nt. I feel it is disrespectful and rude to just think people should deal with your dog being in the store with them. I would not shop anywhere that allowed pets inside, not even a place like homedepot. Dogs are unpredictable no matter how small or cute and if a yorkie is allowed in then so should a huge great dane and that would cause saftey issues. Like many of the people on here that have had there yorkie bite a child who reaches in to touch them, kids are kids and if you turn your back they may try to pet the puppy and to be truthful if a dog in a store every bit my daughter they would have to fight me off the dog! People and there feeling should come before a dogs, humans are humans and dogs are dogs! |

hello I have Kids and I have yorkies...and i'm sorry but my kids are my babies and my yorkies are my pets. BIG DIFFERENCE. And I think my kids are cleaner in the fact that they don't lick their own bottom end..they've never stuck their nose in poo nor have they ever stuck their nose in anothers heiny.. That said...I don't think pets should be allowed in the stores either..reason being is some people are terrified of dogs..my mom is very much afraid of dogs that she doesn't know. I would hate for her to have to be scared everytime she went out for fear of running into a dog in the store. But on the other end it would be nice for them to open up more places for people that enjoy having their pets with them..I would enjoy something like that myself.. |
Everyone could do battle all day about "should my dog be allowed or not". I personallly do take my yorkie with me when ever possible. We have been to walmart, target, home depot, lowes, and countless other places. If there is no sign on the door..... I to understand that service dogs are needed but, my yorkie stays in her bag and bothers no one, a service dog walks all over the floor panting and slobbering and shedding. I have never seen hair come off of my yorkie unless I am combing her and everything I have read and been told (vet included) says that yorkies do not have pet dander. But further more I have seen some pretty nasty people in these same stores that are contaminating food where my yorkie does not. These people do not bathe, not wearing shoes or shirts(this make want to not shop), not to mention the ones who go to the bathroom and don't wash. And lets not forget the ones who think my family would like to have their cigarette with our meal or our outing. I would much prefer to sit down at the table with my yorkie who licks her rear from time to time than these nasty people, and I would much rather shop with her. In areas where "money" rules no shop or store owner would dare tell a customer to take their little dog out. Neither does Pier 1. Every one has their own thoughts. |
Again - I totally agree with a lot of you. Dogs are wonderful loving pets - but they are not people. There are places that are very appropriate to take our dogs to - and let's enjoy these places with our little pets. It is rude, inconsiderate, and totally not responsible to take our little guys into places where they are not allowed. It just isn't mature or responsible. This is the sort of behavior that I would expect from teenagers or younger children --- and many of these are very socially responsible and would never deliberately break a law or ignore a regulation. (I especially can't understand those of us who think it is cute and funny to sneak our dogs into places they aren't allowed). Part of becoming an adult is learning to become socially responsible and obeying existing laws and regulations. Though we may question some regulations, they are generally made for our own health and safety, and we should abide by them. Why have laws and regulations if people feel they have the right to follow only those that they are comfortable with or agree with. What a world this might become!!!! My Yorkie (and other dog) aren't my babies. They are my wonderful little pets. I love them very much and don't take them anywhere they shouldn't be or aren't allowed. There are many many places we can go - and these are the places where we spend our time. Carol Jean |
