| Wolly or silky I just had a breeder tell me that you can tell, if you have a wooly or a silky, by the color of the eye reflection in a camera. She said that a wolly's eyes will reflect blue and a silky's will reflect yellow-orange. Does anyone have any information or opinions on this? Jeanie |

| Zoe's eye's reflect green, blue and yellow depending on the lighting. I personally do not think that is true. Zoe is 4 months old and his hair is pretty silky except when I brush him. Hope this helps.

| I have heard that when the dog is a puppy, the eyes reflect blue. Once they're a little older, green means silky and yellow is cottony. There are more colors, but I only know these because I have/had dogs with these color eyes.

| I'm pretty sure that my pup has a silky coat - I couldn't get it to tangle if I tried. Anyway - his eyes are always brown (their natural color) in the pictures I take. I wonder if having the "red eye" turned off or on with your camera makes a difference. I know until I started turning the "red eye" on that my other dog's eyes were always yellow or gold.....not good - at least for the picture. Carol Jean |

| I've gone to many websites, and most of the dogs eyes appear blue in the pictures, including the dogs of the breeder that told me this. So I have no idea if she knows what she is talking about or not, but nowhere have I seen that mentioned before, in anything I've read. And I believe I've read every yorkie webpage in cyberspace. | I find this very interesting. I'm going to keep investigating and keep taking pictures. The breeder's coment to me was "they will reflect blue if wooly and yellow/orange if silky." |

| Well if the eye theory is indeed correct, your breeder is wrong. According to the theory, the eyes will reflect blue when the dog is a PUPPY. Once it is older, it reflects green for silky, and yellow for wooly. I have had a dog with silky hair and her eyes did in fact reflect green. I have a dog with cottony hair right now and her eyes reflect yellow. Sometimes with different camera angles and settings the eyes reflect a different color, but the majority of the time they reflect yellow. If you do a search here, you will find many threads about this.

| My little Southern Showgirl "Silk" reflects yellow/gold in pictures and she definately has a silky coat. so, I'm not really buying into the 'theory". |

| The theory has worked for my three, I am a believer. Maddie and Polly have silk coats and there eyes reflect green and Rudy had a cotton coat and his eyes reflect yellowish red. I also read in "The complete yorkshire terrier" by Joan G. Gordon that puppies with coats that appear thinner at age 3-4 months as adults carry a thick long silk coat. I have learned a lot from breeders on here, but really like this book.
