| I'm a working mom. And I was when I got Starsky. I took one day off to get him used to home and my beagle Haggis. I kenneled Starsky for a few months to get him potty trained. I came home for lunch for the first 4 months, maybe longer, to let him out to go potty and to play a little. My daughter got home from school around 3:15 in afternoon and she would let him out and play when she could. Then I got home around 5:30 pm. Starsky does great. I think he has a great bladder!! He is now 1 year and I finally got a doggie door!! I haven't let him out during the day just quite yet being the door is only a few days old. I worry about a fox or something that might get him. Hope this helps.

| Frankly, if your mom has concerns, she might see something in this situation that we don't see. I would re-think the Yorkie and go with a kitty who will require less from you initially and see how that works out.. |

| Doesn't sound like the baby will be alone a lot. Maybe your mom has something else she is concerned about. Talk with her and have her read our YT forum. She might want to post her qustions and have us help look for answers.. |

| I'm a working yorkie mommy.... I leave the house @ 7:30 and get home at 5:15 to 5:30 on a normal day....I have two...it makes all the difference in the world! I had romeo for 3 months before I got denero....they are such buddies now...they are still super excited when i get home...but I don't worry about them being lonely. If Denero will ever get into the potty training thing...I will give them more room to roam...Romeo suffers from Denero's faults!

| Do you guys live with your mother? If so, maybe it would be good to respect her wishes and wait until you get your own place?

| I think people that work can give a yorkie as good of a life as those that don't. I work and I give my girl time before and after I come from work. My girl is as happy as can be. She wakes me up in the morning barking to go potty, then she pics up her toys looks at me and barks with her toy in the mouth so that I could play with her, she gets next to my bed and barks so we can take naps, she asks me to hurryup when I am getting ready to go to work, she doesn't like me to close the door to our room and if I close it she scratches it so I can keep it open. Why all these expplanitions you may ask? Well this just shows that me and my girl know and communicate great and I work. This is just to mention a few things. |

| Working Mommy I work full time and Fagan does fine. We also have a Corgi so he has company. I just changed jobs and I can come home for lunch. I leave at 9, come home around 12 noon, and my son is home from school around 2:30 so Fagan isn't home too long alone. I think you can make it work.

| I'm a Working Yorkie Mom too! I work full time, leave the house shortly after 7:00 to get the boys to school (they attend 2 different schools) and get myself to work before 8:00. The oldest one is home by 3:00 and then I'm home any time after 5:00, depending on how late the youngest has baseball practice. Hubby works at the fire station, 24 hours on, 48 hours off - on his days off (he does pest control on those days), he leaves later in the morning that I do and is able to come home a couple times a day to let the furbabies out (we have 2). It will work with you having a full time job but...as someone else said, maybe there's more to your mom's concerns than just because you have a full time job. Follow the advice and talk to her before you spend your money on a yorkie. They are a special breed (to all us yorkie owners) and require a lot of attention (attention that they so deserve) I wish you all the best and hope you and your mom can come to an agreement on this. |

| Yes, if you still live with your mother it would probably be a good idea to respect her wishes and not get a baby until you can devote more time to it. Believe it or not mothers really do know best, however it took me 41 years and three kids of my own before i understood that!! I have to respectfully disagree that working all day and keeping your baby in a crate is better than being home. Especially for the first 6 months. It's just my humble opinion. I don't mean to start a contraversy at all. I just think if you're going to have a dog you should be there to take care of it and not leave it alone for many hours during the day. Again, I don't mean to ruffle any feathers it's just my opinion. |

| There may be factors here that we don't know about BUT if you are asking only about the dog being home alone, I will give my 2 cents. We are a working family and Tatum is at home alone sometimes a couple hours at a time but sometimes 6-7 hours. She was crate trained and has no problem being in there when we are not home. She basically sleeps the whole time anyway. My husband works out of an office in the house so when he is home, Tatum is with him. But he is on the road sometimes part of the day and sometimes all day. On those days, she gets put in her kennel and may not be let out until the girls get home from school on the bus. I think my main problem is when those that are home all day with their dogs criticize those of us that aren't. That does not necessarily mean we love them any less. The dog will get used to what you provide. Tatum is never lacking for attention or playmates when we are home. If the only people that owned dogs were the ones that didn't work, there would a lot less pet owners in the world. I say if that's your only problem, you have to know yourself if between you and your husband, ya'll can give the dog the attention it needs. I have a MIL that has strong opinions about things that are none of her business and know how that can be. If you are the ones giving this dog all of it's care and do not live with your mother, then it has to be your decision. If there are other factors we don't know about, then I guess that may change things. Good luck!
