sorry to get into this, but i feel i need to defend some people. I guess it depends on the kind of dog, but we have a miniature american eskimo back home with my parents and he is never ever inside. he hates being inside at all. he hates being in a car. it's just way too hot for him. he's happy to be running around in the snow when it's -30 C.

O yeah those dogs are prone to be out in the cold. They have a double layer coat I wouldn't want to stay inside either. Imagine yourself sitting in the house with two coats on in a house with the heat on in the winter wouldn't you want to go outside to get some air..lol

I mean the dog would be outside with shelter during the day and inside in my room at night. I would never leave a dog outside all night. I just cant leave the dog in the house when i am at work.

Is getting two dogs asolution to leaving the little yorkshire on its own for so long?

no yorkie should be outside . maybe u should get a beagle or rat terrier or another type of dog !! a yorkie left out side could easly freaze to death !! even with shelter !!

I don't know if this is possible for you safrina, but many Yorkie owners leave their dogs in "x-pens" during the day while they are at work/school. It is a small place where the dog can be inside your home, but not be destructive!

Its back to the drawing board for me and pick another breed.

If anyone can think of a breed that suits staying outside during the day and small enough to be in my room at night that would help alot.

It doesn't even need to be that big. As long as there is enough space for the dog to eat, sleep, and use the bathroom!

No, I wouldn't get two right off. Get one dog and see how it goes. There are alot of hidden expenses with the first dog also. Oh, by the way.. if you need quiet time I wouldn't go with anything in the terrier group. Alot of yorkies tend to be a little yappy.

I agree that only ignorant people house dogs outside. weather cared for great or not it still gets hot it still gets cold, there are fleas, ticks, mosqitos and all kinds of buggies. There are snakes and wild animals. Its insane to get a dog if your sole perpose is to have it live outside!!!!!!!!!

Maybe you should think about getting a larger yorkie. I have a 9 pounder or so, and she loves it outside. Even in the cold. I do have to say that they are an energetic breed. She is 2.5 yrs old and still wants to play alot. Luckily I have 2 children to play with her too. She is just now calming down and letting me hold and pet her for longer periods of time.
