| New Here - Need Help Please Hi: I am new to this forum and hope that you can help me. I took my 2 year old Yorkie to the vet yesterday for her annual checkup. She was bleeding a lot after the heartworm blood test, and this concerned the vet. The vet did another test to see if she has a clotting disorder. The results came back yesterday and she does indeed have a clotting disorder. The vet said this could be caused by liver disease. She had 2 surgeries in the past without bleeding problems, so they believe this is something that has materialized, and not something congenital. I have researched the internet and can't seem to find any good info on clotting disorders or liver disease. The only think I find is relative to liver shunts, and Luci has NONE of the symptoms listed for that. Tomorrow she goes for a bile test and possibly an ultrasound of her liver at some point. Has anyone had similar experiences? I was so sad yesterday when I got the news. She's my first and only dog. The thought of her undergoing more tests and needle pricks makes me so sad, but I know it has to be done. Any advice/info you have to offer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much, Luci's Mama |

| Thank you for your responses. The vet didn't give me any research info. We spoke on the phone yesterday when I called for the results. They are trying to figure out exactly what the problem is, so I don't know that there's anything specific I can research yet. I have searched the internet for "blood disorders, clotting disorders, liver disorders" and don't come up with anything useful. Liver shunts come up, but she doesn't exhibit any of the symptoms associated with that. He put her on a vitamin K supplement to help with the clotting factor. He is going to do a blood chemistry and bile acid test tomorrow and mentioned possibly doing an ultrasound to evaluate liver function. The effect is her blood not clotting, now we need to find out what the cause is. I appreciate any and all info. Thank you so much. One good thing did come out of my searches, and that was this forum! |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I have not heard of it, but Cali had 2 Bie acid tests 2 weeks ago after 2 bouts of problems. First she went into the er vet with a weird neurological problem and the kept her overnight and Iv'd her and did the bile acid test. It came back high at 90. I was so devastated. But when I went to pick her up they had a bandage on her front leg where they had the IV. It was soaked in blood and about inches of her leg whre it was shaved was covered in caked blood. Well two days later I had to take her back for diahrrea and vomiting, they kept her again and did another Bile acid test and Iv'd her. The bile acid came out lower this time at 32 plus the ultraound showed nothing, but this time where they had shaved her and bandaged her there was no blood so I don't know if the person who pulled the Iv the first time didn't do a good job or what, Maybe that's what happened when they took her bllod for the test. Good luck on the Bile acid tests, I know how scary it is. They still don't know for sure what caused Cali's problem's so I still worry since she is only 8 months old something could show up. Please let us know how she is doing.

| Well, I dropped Luci off this morning for her test. I hate leaving her...she just trembles and looks so sad. I have to call in an hour to find out when her last blood draw will be. Hopefully the test will provide some answers. Thanks so much to all who responded. I couldn't believe the immediate response from everyone. I have a feeling I'm going to like it here. |
