| Need Advice...... I am having a bit of a problem with my 9 month old Meeko "marking his territory". What can I do to make him stop?? Is there a product I may use or do I just have to deal with it. Help!!!!

| Is your dog neutered? As for products, try Nature's Miracle (at petco). It eliminates all traces of the smell for dogs, so they never go in the same place twice. |

| Thanks for the advice.... He is not neutered. He is my very first Yorkie or puppy. I've never owned a pet before, therefore I am really lost. I love my Meeko so much that I want to take care of him and be able to keep my house clean. I now adopted Molly. I've been doing research on the internet, book stores and library. Am I posting questions that already have been asked? I get very few responses. Any suggestions????

| Your best bet is to get him nutered. Sometimes that will help with marking, intact dogs do this more often than nutered do. Other than that, I really don't know - both of my dogs are females, so I really have no good advice for you, sorry. I'm sure there will be someone who does though

| They use what are called "belly bands" to keep the dogs from marking. here is a link:http://www.doggiebellybands.com/. You can also buy them at your local PetSmart or Petco, maybe even Walmart. My neighbor used these because her puppy wasnt old enough to be neutered yet. The vet she went to doesnt spay until 6 months and her like boy was already lifting his leg at 5 months so she used these and they seemed to work well.I would also get something like Nature's Choice cleaner from Petco to clean up the marking spots for the future.

| archie marked for a bit right after he was neutered, out of habit, but now, he doesn't stop every inch to do it. marking territory is not necessarily a bad thing as long as he does it outside...it's a way of saying that archie was here. it's what dogs do. i think that as he got older and more trained, and learned to walk properly on a leash, his tendency to keep stopping and investigating and peeing on things to make sure everyone knew that he stopped to investigate started to diminish. |

| Okay I have a really really dumb question? How do you know when a male is "marking" as opposed to just going pee? My 4 month old boy doesn't squat or lift his leg so every time he wets on the carpet or floor, I'm assumming he's peeing? When do they start marking? At 6 or 7 months and when they do start marking, how do you tell that they are marking? I told you, it was a really dumb question, sorry. |

| how do you tell marking? 4 month old is too young usually starts when they figure out they can lift their leg about 6-9 months.... You will find dribbles on every doorway, furniture legs or any post like structure in the house. If you are planning on neutering do it no later than 6 months to prevent this, if not plan on buying the belly bands, line it with lady panty liners (which needs to be changed often) before they start!

| My friend had the same problem with her male yorkie. And she got a spray bottle of water . And when she would catch him doing it she would mist his face with the water. He hated it ! In about 2 days he stoped. Just an idea .

| 4 months is really a baby. They don't mark until older, but it's not like they actually pee, but just kind of squirt a little bit. Plus, the pee that they use for marking is supposedly stronger than the regular pee, so it's a little bit darker in color. It took Archie a little while before lifting his leg up to pee (about 6 to 8 months). |
