| New Yorkie Pup with Questions..... Hi, We just added snickers to our family and I am finding myself with lots of questions... this seems like a great site and i was hoping someone could help me with these.... snickers is our first yorkie pup and she is so sweet. She is just under 3m old and just under 3lbs.... she has whitish markings on her head and slivery markings near her underbelly other than that she is black and gold right now... does anyone know about how big she will get judging from what she is now? or what colors she may be? also her ears are floppy and dont stand up and she is just about 3m old - will they? I really hope they will.... i have been feeding her Eukanuba puppy dry food but she wasnt eating so i mixed it with the little puppy bites w/gravy i wasnt sure if this was the best thing to go with but at least she is eating it now. She scratches alot but i have no other pets so i would be surprised if it was fleas - i had her puppy groomed on monday but that didnt help... she has only been home with us for 6days so sorry for all the questions. Finally i have been trying to crate train her for nights but not sure i am going about it right and she is very, very nippy..... any suggestions on any of this? I dont know anyone else with one of these beautiful little babies.... Thanks! snickers mom.... |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Welcome and congratulations! I can give my thoughts on a couple of your questions. As far as weigjht htey say double their 12 week weight which would make him around 6 Lbs a very good size. As for her ears make sure you keep the hair on the ears shaved to keep weight off the ear leathers. As for the itching it could be food allergies, any food with corn in it can cause this. I would make sure you get rid of any fleas if you have them,. I can't give any advice on food as Cali is nearly 8 months old and feeding her is still a challenge. She was very nippy, biting until about 6 months of age and now she hardly ever nips, she lick instead. Good luck I'm sure people on here can help with any of your questions.

| thanks everyone...! When we decided to get snickers i had read quite a bit before picking a yorkie... but am still amazed at how many questions i still had/have. I had gotten her from a pet store (which, now i know, wasnt the way i should have gone) i was trying to find a breeder but went about it the wrong way and this store had assured me they use thier own breeder (which after reviewing the ppwrk and researching learned she came from Kansas and I live in RI. Needless to say i have had little or no info from the breeder or the pet shop, and, although i wish i had gotten her a different way knowing what i know now we still love her and wouldnt trade her so thanks so much for all the help i know i posted a whole host of questions but i have no-one to ask.... i really appriciate everyones responses and more info please send it my way. WE love our little yorkie baby she is perfect we just want to make sure we get as much info as possible to treat her right |

| I just mailed you a veritable book full of info...happy reading. also, it does sound like you got a mill pup, so be on the lookout for any health problems and be sure to have her vet checked asap if you haven't already. Please post the name of the store that sold you this pup...it may keep someone in future from believing that they are selling locally bred, hand-raised pups that weren't shipped across country.

| Welcome to YT. I have an almost 3 month old pup myself. Her ears are halfway standing, if that makes sense. Mostly standing except the top part flops over. They just now started to even halfway stand. We just had her ears trimmed/shaved, so I think that might have helped some. I know some people tape their yorkies ears and there's great info on here about how to go about doing that. Some have said that their yorkie's ears stood on their own between 3-6 months, from everything I've read, so it could be possible that her ears will just pop up on their own. If you really want them standing, the best route would probably be to trim/shave the ears or have them done or try taping them. We're personally going to give it a week or two more once she's three months and see what happens, since they're halfway standing now.

| Help with biting... when we 1st got snickers home she was very cuddly and only a tiny bit nippy.... now no cuddles w/out biting! all she does is bite... i am not as worried about chewing on stuff i know she is teething but i can't even hold her anymore she bites ALL the time... i try telling her "no" and redirecting her to something she CAN bite but so far she seems uneffected by this... please help! |
