| Two silky coats make silky babies? I would like to know if you breed two yorkies with nice silky coats will you always get puppies with silky coats? Also when do they start getting their adult textured hair? Tinkerbell's coat already feels silky at 11 weeks, could this change with adult hair? She is silver at the roots, can she still be silky if she is silver and not the steel blue? Last edited by chloeandj; 03-23-2005 at 12:34 PM. |

| adult hair I, too am interested in the "adult hair". Max is 22 weeks old and he has such fluffy, full hair. He's like a little cotton ball at times but other times he looks like he just really scruffy. Should he get a big-boy haircut and get this taken down or do I need to wait until he is a little older? Both his mother and his father were silkier so I am wondering if this is something that comes with time.

| Two silky coated parents can produce a soft coated pup. The soft/cottony coat can be carried by a silky coated dog. By the looks of your picture the pup should be silky coated. Its hard to tell for sure but it looks that way to me. Personally I wouldn't cut a pups coat, unless I planned on keeping it short always. I never cut the face hair around the eyes at all. It does take up to 2 years to get a full adult coat in. Most you can see the shift in color by one or so. |

| I agree with CC's post...even tho the parents are silky coated the puppies might not be. I was told that our yorkie brings genetical information from at least 10 generations before...so even tho i do believe the parents can give you an idea of what the puppy will look like...it is not a rule! |

| There was a thread a few weeks ago about the green in their eyes. If you take a picture and their eyes look green in the picture they'll have a silky coat. I believe that's right?

| There was an article in Yorkshire Terrier Magazine about twenty years ago stating "put a flash light into a yorkshire Terriers eyes if they reflect green you have a silk and if they reflect red you have a woolly" That night the article arrived in subscribers mailbox, the lights thoughout the yorkie world quickly turned off and flashing lights turned on to test this theory, Many breeders continue to believe the theory today BUT just as many say it's false. Who knows....

| I am one of the breeders who has personal proof of the green flash + silky coat and amber/red/orange = soft.. ..I am amazed at the number of people who say "OOH, you ought to see the coat on my puppy. It is so full and soft-looks like a bear"..That is okay in a pet but is not to standard..I just love 'em all no matter their coat texture, as long as they have one. It's those hairless boogers that bother me.. |

| I have a nice silky coated dog that has golden eye sheen in pics. Also a dark softer coated one that is green. It does work most of the time but not always with cameras. Last edited by CC's; 03-23-2005 at 08:47 PM. |

| Lexy's eyes I shined a flashlight in Lexy's eyes and it reflected a soft blue gray! I wonder if that has a special meaning for her coat? Maybe she'll have an afro!!!! LOL |

| Guys, I couldn't see any color flashes but my husband says Bo's eyes are just brown, "like daddy's".
