I called at the first possible minute to see how he is doing, and doc said they're just getting him up. He's still heavily sedated and isn't eating but it looks like he got through the night fine. He told me to call back at 11:30 once they've had a chance to get him up and bandage him.Anyone have experience with recovering dogs? I'm sure the doc will have advice, but I suppose I'm gonna need diapers? (I meant Jack, smartasses!) Remember, it's minus-something-ridiculous outside. He'll have pretty much round-the-clock care till March, but should I have a crate for the few times we leave him? As I said, I'm sure doc will have some advice. I'll let you know when I get him home. I'm going back to bed!

| hehehehe It is kind of like stalking... We just wanted to check on Little Jack and it's a good thing that you clarified yourself about the diaper situation... |

| I Love Thor Donating Member | I hope Jack starts to eat soon. So I think I missed something...Why will he be 'on bed rest' until March? That's a long time! I hope everything goes smoothly... |

| I hope Jack is ok today. I am sure he will be groggy and sore for a few days. I don't know about the diaper? But I do have experience with the elizabethan collar. They WORK!!!!!!! Don't know if they will recommend one. Good Luck bringing poor Jack home. |

Doc says full recovery is going to take some time, though. He's not going to want to use his leg and is going to need home physical therapy to help with range of motion, etc.

| I'm SO sorry that this happened to you, but SO glad that he has someone in his life like you now. He's one very lucky and loved little guy!! Glad to hear the surgery went well, and I hope that his recovery goes just as well if not better. I'll be keeping Jack and his WONDERFUL parents in my thoughts and prayers.

| Glad to hear the surgery was a success. Now get some rest, so you will be rested up when he comes home. I 'm also glad that grandma will be there to watch over him for a while. Takes some of the work off you and Kelly. As the "grandma" in this house, I can attest to the fact that we get as involved as the mama's and poppa's do. I always refer to Suz' dogs as "ours" even though they are really hers. But then, they think we are all "theirs" so I guess it's ok. |

| Forget it, Mister!! In order to TRULY stalk you, I would have to relocate myself to the land where it is minus something-totally-rediculous, and NO FREEKIN WAY is that ever gonna happen, LOL! As to the advice on leg surgery recovery, as you know, my Wosie needed to have surgery to repair her broken growth plates, and was supposed to be on "bed rest" for a full 3 months as well. Being only 5 months old, however, it made for quite the challenge. In fact, as I picked her up from the surgeons, they told me she had been BOUNCING in her cage on her hind legs (one which was broken, and recently repaired), so when they handed her to me, they smiled and said "GOOD LUCK"!! She did not have a cast, nor a bandage, which freaked me out. She only had internal stitches, and only one external. I was to keep her as motionless as possible, and purchased a front pack with which I carried her everywhere. She needed to be crated when I could not hold her, and she could still go out to potty, but needed to be very short leashed. Her potty privacy had to be compromised accordingly, and she learned to potty within 12 inches of my shoe, which can be slightly disconcerting, LOL! At first she put no pressure whatsoever on the broken leg, but eventually began to use it slightly. BUT!!! No running, no jumping (HAH) no PLAYING (which stunk for both of us), and as much quiet as possible from mid November until the first of January. She actually healed a lot quicker than they had thought she might, and I began to let her have her freedom around mid January, and now she is as good as new! We also had to do physical therapy for 6 weeks. Flexing her leg out straight, then bending it to a 90 degree angle, 20 reps, 3 times per day. That went over really well at first. NOT!!!!! Thank goodness for doggy pain meds. But she soon got used to it, especially once she realized she would get a treat if she relaxed and let me do it. Dave had to hold her while I did the flexions, as otherwise she would not lay still. (My son describes Wosie like this: Picture a marmot that has swallowed a working gyroscopeLOLOL) Good luck with little Jack, and keep us in touch. TRY to do a LITTLE BETTER at that, WOULD YA???? (you know I am joshing you, Mike!!)HUGS to Eddie!! Poor guy, he's probably wondering where his new "toy" Jack went, lol!!

I'm also happy to hear that Jack is doing well. I know he's in the best of care now and he'll be in the best of care when he comes home, too! I think Eddie will be a good motivation for him to use his leg and go play so I'm sure he'll recover just fine. You'll have to make sure he takes it easy
