Laminated wood flooring This topic has been on here several times and for the life of me, I can't find any of the threads. Going to replace my "yorkie room' carpet in a month or so and need ideas. I like the laminated wood since I probably will be doing the kitchen also and the two rooms connect. I also love the big block tile that Villette has. I think I like the wood better. Seems like I remember that someone on here said that the wood floors stain if the dogs have an accident. Also, the pug and poodlw pull their food out of the dishes and eat off the floor. they gave table scraps sometimes. They LUVVVVVVV steak. So, I guess I really need to know how the laminated wood holds up to our babies. Thanks |
I am putting Laminated wood floors in our new house and the only thing I have read on here is that you have to make sure their nails are trimmed. I quess they can scratch them  |
Laminated wood floors are very advanced compared to the old days and they are fine with yorkies....I prefered Tile because we have 3 that go in and out all the time and it's easy to clean...I also have area rugs down - but tile gets cold - that's the only drawback to it....but BOTH are good when you have dogs. |
I have laminate in my kitchen/hallway. We are doing it ourselves, one room at a time. I love the laminate. I haven't had any problems with staining. It cleans up great! It's far more durable than hardwood(real wood). And my home NEEDS durable w/ 4 kids, 2 cats, and 3 yrkies running around! Laminate is HARD to scratch up. Have you tried the key test yet? laminate Vrs. hardwood....Hardwood will have gouges in it after scraping a house key on it. Laminate won't & marks rub right off. The thing to watch out for on laminate is.....don't leave water spills on it too long. I wipe any spills right up. If the water/pee/whatever sits on it too long, it'll soak into the seams and can cause buckling. I had this problem when my refrigerator ice maker line was leaking. We didn't realize the leak was under there til it started effecting the floor in front of the frig. Some buckling occured. Since we did the floor ourselves, we pulled up the bad area and replaced with new. :) adding....the type I bought is nailess/glueless. It's a snap & lock floater type system. We really lucked out finding a flooring warehouse in out area and buy our for .89 square or $21.00 a box. |
Laminate wood flooring... We put in the laminate wood flooring in our kitchen, hallways and living area. We really love it....and have not had any problems with scratching. As mentioned above....do not let water sit or it can cause problems. (We have one small area that needs to be redone because of that.) The one thing we found is that the pups have to adjust to walking on the laminate...they seem to slide more. And my son's beagle really struggles at times with slipping around when trying to play. |
Laminate CAN stain....and for the puppies sliding - keeping the hair Under their feet trimmed helps alot. |
I have laminate on my entire 1st floor and am hoping to do the 2nd floor this year. I LOVE it! My dogs get their food and water on it all the time, and they run and slide on it and I have never had any scratches from their nails, and our other dogs weighs 68 lbs. I have heard that water can damage them if left for long periods of time, I am constantly wiping up from our bigger dog getting water on the floor, but haven't had any problems. I would definitely recommend it. |

Aside from the Frig. leaking, which That was leaking for Who Knows How long!, underneath....I've not had any problems from the dogs themselves. Mine still have accidents at times also....If I'm gone too long, overnight hours, etc...I just clean it up when I see it. No damage at all from those incidents. |
I am curious to, as I just bought enough of the laminate floor to do the entire house...yeah no more carpet!!! But that would so be terrible to have it ruined from wetness, is there anything one can do to protect it more? |
I put in a product that is actual wood with a formica type finish, having puppies, yes, missing peepad, messy food, mud snow and all of the family mess, I have never been sorry, its like new,so much easier than even tile and its not cold, will never have anything else, even put it in the kitchen |

My dogs didn't have too much trouble adjusting to the floor, but my Cats! LOL! OMG, they were so funny! They like to run and chase each other through the house. That first week we had the hallway done(my bedrooms at the end to the left) the racing cats couldn't stop to turn into my room and would slide/crash into the end of Hall closet. It was soooooooo friggin' Funny! :lol tears ..or when they would try to take off running, it was like they were running in place...hehehe |
Can anyone post a picture of laminate in the kitchen?I was wondering how it looks? |
Good! We have to redo our kitchen floor and this is what we were thinking too. I'm glas so many people reccomend it. |
