But, on the other hand, it probably wouldn't look good in the room that is the first thing people see if they use our front door. All our friends use our back door tho. |

Have you seen the choices of linoleum lately? They are beautiful. They are a loy different from along time ago. :) |
I have hardwood floors.... The person that lived here before me had cats that would have *more than the occasional* accident and it eventually destroyed the wood. It turned black and rotted. We had to completely tear it up and lay a whole new floor. No amount of sanding & refinishing was going to take care of it. The smell was just HORRIBLE. But I think that was years of abuse. A spot or two that's wiped up right away shouldn't do that.... I wish we had taken pictures. It was absolutely aweful... Those of you that have hardwood... Do the blacklight test! Turn off all the lights in the room, make sure it's dark, and then shine a blacklight on the floor. Any urine spots will glow a bright yellow/green color. (This works on carpeting too!) Just because you can't see or smell it, it doesn't mean the stain isn't there... When I have a chance I'll see if I can get a good picture of a couple of the spots in my house that glow..... If you're using any kind of pet stain/odor remover, be sure to test it on the floor first. If you use it according to the directions (the one I have says to just put it on the stain and let it air dry, don't wipe up or anything) it may leave a stain... It's similar to a water mark you may get on a coffee table from a sweaty glass. (I did a decent size patch test in the back of one of the closets and it left a stain anyway). |
I just put laminate floors down in my living room a little less than a month ago and I really like it. You do have to clean it with a special solution bc it will ruin your floors if not. And if the dogs do go to the bathroom on it and you leave it there for a while bc you didnt see it or whatever it will ruin it. My girls had a really hard time walking on it for the first week but they are getting better at it now. Also I recommend not putting it in the area where you put there food and water bc the water on it will ruin it if not wiped up in a short amt. of time. |

I have had laminate flooring and just built a house 3 years ago and opted for hardwood in great room den and entry. Kitchen has linoleoum. I would never put laminate in again. It is prone to trouble from dog dishes dripping water, accident etc. will buckle the floor. I put in prefinished oak 3/4 inch hardwood. It can be refinished a lot of times if needed. The pet nails do give small scratches, but I guess it is like a victorian house, it just adds character. It does not scratch deeply, and frankly, hardwood looks real to me and laminate looks like fake wood and when you walk across it, it does not feel the same. This is just my opinion as having them both. |
We have laminate wood floors throughout our house and let me tell you - they are a pain to clean with Madison. She pees on newspaper or a pad and if she happens to step on her pee and then on the floor - forget it...little paw prints all over the house!! I swear I spend a good portion of everyday mopping up her paw prints!! |
I agree with that. I found them hard to clean without streaking. You had to clean and then completely dry them. My cleaning lady absolutly hated them. The hardwood are much easier to care for. It didnt seem to matter what you used either. |

We have ceramic tile and it is a godsend especially with puppies. Talk about easy clean up. I personally wouldn't have anything else. |
4 Attachment(s) Me Too Sheila - Here is my Den - we did it in Tile and Granite.....ignore the Mauseleum look it has - my husband went NUTS when he designed it 2-1/2 years ago..... :) This goes thru out the house except in Bedrooms - they have carpet. Then my KITCHEN when we moved in BEFORE AND AFTER...excuse the stuff in my sink - must have been the maids day off :D oh ...wait - I'm her ! |

I love the designs. We just did basic tile nothing fancy. I love the before shot of the kitchen. Looks alot like mine did. Our dining area had nasty ugly carpet. I was really glad to get rid of that stuff. Our bedrooms still have carpet as well. Ethan's has new carpet. The other's need to be redone. We are getting ready to put down new flooring in the bathrooms. It will be lineolum(sp) though. |
Omg....This house was ugly before we fixed it up... The Kitchen was my design and I WISH I was here to see what My husband was doing in the den - but back then he was just getting sick.... and I was busy MOVING from the other house with my son and didn't even see it till it was halfway finished...My jaw dropped when I saw that huge square in the middle of the Den :D |
