I have wood - and I love it - I considered laminate but opted for wood and I have had no problems at all with it. This week Rowdy decided to pee on it (it was raining outside and OMG, that he would get WET!) and I didn't find it till it was completely dry. There was no stain, no odor, no nothing - I was very relieved to see how well it withstood the peeing episode (which I knew would eventually happen). My daughter had laminate and the only thing that I didn't like about it was the clicking sound it made when you walked across it in anything except rubber soled shoes (but that may be related to the type of laminate - I don't know). Also, my daughter's lab knocked everything off the top of her desk and I'm not sure what it was that landed on the laminate floor, but it scratched it BADLY (actually part of the laminate chipped off) and that part of the flooring had to be replaced. |
My husband (with me assisting him) installed laminated flooring in my pantry when we built our house 3 years ago. We bought the materials at Costco as it was reasonable and closely matches the real maple wood on my kitchen floor (we were trying to save on costs). It has held up pretty well when it comes to water because I have a freezer in my pantry and every once in a while I would see a puddle of water about where the door area is . . probably because I keep forgetting to close it properly :rolleyes: . It has stains because I don't attend to it immediately :rolleyes: :rolleyes: :rolleyes: but when I do, it completely disappears! :) I just love it . . . |
Bonnie has peed on my laminate and I didn't find it until it was dried (don't know how long it had been there), and it didn't leave a stain or odor. And like I said before, my big dog gets water every where when he drinks, even though his bowl is on a rug (I think he just puts his nose in it then walks across the floor to make me mad!) My kitchen floor will have wet spots on it from this in the morning from the night before and I just wipe it up. |
I'll be glad to post a pic when I get home from work...I have light maple (that matches my cabinets) Pergo and was installed when I built my house....7 years ago. It's in my kitchen and hall and foyer. I have the large block ceramic tile in my bathrooms. I live my kitchen. I wouldn't trade it for anything. I tried the key test before we decided on it..you have to really gouge the stuff to get it to scratch...and I've dropped glasses before and they bounced! Didn't break. I've had one yorkie on it since May of last year and two since August of last year...they haven't done any damage. They are two boys that love to chase each other too...it's funny watching them trying to round the corner to the bedroom! I usually give them a small handful of cherrios as a treat and I just throw the out in the kitchen and watch them scramble for them. I have no negative comments on the laminate at all...I've been pleased and would do the same again. |
I am wanting to get rid of my laminate flooring because my dogs are having accidents (and driving me CRAZY) and the laminate is buckeling. I want to go with ceramic. If your dog is prone to accidents, I would say no laminate. |
I am so glad I came across this thread!! My husband and I have been discussing changing a few of our highy used carpeted rooms to laminate or hardwood. (mainly due to potty accidents) We have been going back and forth debating on the pro's and con's. He says that if the potty gets between the slats odor will set in and buckeling as Carter's Mom mentioned. I haven't disagreed with him on this and have been curious as to what are the best floor options for Yorkie's and their potty mistakes and what can be enjoyed by Mom and Dad. Very interesting to read everyone's comments. |
We had Bruce hardwood flooring installed in our home - in every room including bathrooms. Each plank is prefinished in the factory with a sealer and polyurethane, numerous coats - it is hard as a rock. Gracie and Sammie have christened every room - you cannot hurt the floors. Their nails cannot penetrate it. No amount of running and jumping can hurt it. I bought the Hoover Floor mate and use it about every two weeks - it is an awesome product. It is also great for spot cleanup, like puppy accidents... Install your floors and enjoy them. Much easier than rugs. |
Can someone tell me what to use on laminate wood flooring? I am in the process of getting ready to clean a friends place and I think she has Pergo?! Anyway, her little doggie always has accidents and her floor is in good shape. I just want to use something that will not attract him to pee there (I heard no amonia). What do you all use to clean up pee spots, to mop with, etc. Thanks! |
1 Attachment(s) My hubby and I decided that we were going to put hardwood down on all floors about 2 weeks before we decided to move... LOL At least we only got one room finished.. Man, that's hard work.. My knees were killing me for days. Here's a pic of our master that we just completed a month ago! |

I have one of those hoover hard wood cleaners that I use to do big cleaning sure does make it shine!)..then when I just want to damp mop I just use this spray that I get from Home Depot that is specifically for laminate floor and lightly spray and mop across... |
we had it in the kitchen lounge, when we had a conservetory built my husband put under floor heating in there and is now doing the kitchen as were rosie did wee wees when she was little the lamanated floor has lifted and bubbled, but we are keeping the lamanate in the lounge. so what im saying is be careful if theres going to be lots of puppy wee wee on it |
I have linoleum in the sunroom where most of my dogs stay, I love it. It only has 2 seams. Seems like nothing hurts it.The rest of the house is hardwood,put in when the house was built in 1923,and they are great too. No carpet. No rugs,cause everyone thinks rug=peepad. Clean sunroom w/ white vinegar& odorba.. Clean wood w/ murphys & odorban. :) |

I said Hoover but now that I'm home from work, I looked and it's actually the Dirt Devil Floor Keeper...it was $89...and I love it! I use it on my laminate, my ceramic tile...it has special cleaner that goes in it, just like carpet cleaners that mix with water...it has a cycle to clean and then to dry...it does a really good job. It actually has a light vacuum cycle to use before hand too.... |
