| Trying to hump new puppy Hercules is 6 1/2 months. He has always tried to hump this one toy, his lamp chop puppet. Which is ok with us. Well now with the new puppy, Athena, he's trying to hump her. He's already been fixed, so I'm not worried about that, but I just don't want him to even try. How do I get him to stop??? I've yelled no at him when he mounts her, or even tries to mount her. I recently separated them because I found him on top of her and gave him his lamp chop toy (which we call humpy). He went at it for a bit with humpy. But I'm still wondering if I'm doing the right thing.

| We're getting a girl this week and I am anticipating the same problem. Chachi humps his teddy. We tell him No Hump. He responds a little. I was hoping this would not be that big of a problem after neutering but from what I've been reading It sounds like it will still be an issue.

| Gee we are getting a new puppy in 2 weeks and are figuring we will have the same problem with Max....he has a special stuffed squirrel and frog that are his "friends". EVERYTHING I have read says this is more a donimation or defining who is the leader more than sexual humping.....he is trying to show he is the leader. I am sorry but not sure what to advise to get him to stop....hopefully someone else will have a good idea. |

| My brand new Yorkie did the same thing to his new toy when I got him home this weekend- he is only 9 weeks old! The vet said Saturday that it was to show domination- not a sexual activity. It's still embarrassing in front of all the people coming by to see the new "baby!" |

| I'm totally ok with the fact that it's to show domination, but I'm worried how it will affect Athena. Is this bad for her in anyway???

| Pipersmom, it is not usually a good idea to expose a NEW puppy in NEW surroundings to more different people and things. You didn't ask, but I would suggest you give hm plenty of time to get to know his new hoomans and surroundings before y'all show him off. I know how hard it is to not want everyone to see him, but think about him and his confusion. I do not intend to offend you but when I let a new baby leave, I tell the new owners DO NOT HAVE OTHERS IN TIL YOUR BABY IS SETTLED!!! I am a stickler about that cause it can really traumatize a puppy..He would normally still be with his littermates and mom.......... |

| I hope somebody has some suggestions, too. My brother has a boston terrier that is about 4 yrs. old or so and his fiance has a female poodle that is, I don't know, several years. They have both been fixed for years, but now that they are getting married in the fall, she has been bringing her poodle to his house a good bit to get them used to each other. Well, Zack is very, very interested in Sassy! We don't know how to get him to leave her alone. They hate to leave them alone together. I tease them that they can breed Boston Toodles (just a joke since neither of them can procreate). It really tears up my to-be sister-in-law. Jimmy thinks its funny!
